Enjoying Balloons and Tunes UK

Were I lived in America, we had hot air balloons all the time. It was normal to be driving down the road to the shop and see hot air balloons flying in the summertime. My cousin, right now, in America, drives hot air balloons. It’s always been something that felt magical and fun! In the United Kingdom, it more rare to see hot air balloons, as it always seems too windy for them – but we were excited to attend the Balloons and Tunes UK event, specifically their Essex one, as they are bringing balloons, tunes, and entertainment all around the UK.

Seaside Cupcake Class with Sweet Designs by Jennie

It’s been another month, so Amelia and I excitedly went along to another cupcake class with Sweet Designs by Jennie, this time it was a new design; seaside cupcakes, perfect for the beautiful weather we had been having lately. Sweet Designs by Jennie hand-creates these designs based on what has inspired her, and as it’s seaside weather, she thought about the seaside. This class was primarily done with fondant work, and as usual, it’s on the smaller side with 6 people attending at once. We are regulars here, so we know quite a few of the others who attend, and this class had some great vibes!

Seeing Bats with Essex Bat Group Bat Walk at Parndon Wood Reserve

Now that it is summer, there are so many more events popping up! I actually started a website of things to do in Harlow to help keep track of everything. Parndon Wood Nature Reserve has been known to host a bunch of events throughout the year, but as ECCO no longer looks after the reserve, there seems to be less and less. I was delighted when I heard that Essex Bat Group was hosting a Bat Walk within the reserve, featuring a talk all about bats!

Climbing Fort Lovrijenac in Dubrovnik

While visiting the Old Town in Dubrovnik, we saw so many people climbing along the wall of the Old Town itself. This wall looked really crowded to us, and in the sun we didn’t want to actually hike up that many stairs. So, within eyeshot of the area, we decided to go up to Fort Lovrijenac, which is far less crowded, has less stairs, and still has fantastic views of both the ocean and the Old Town. This was a really fantastic decision for us, though if the weather was a little less hot, we might have ended up doing both as you can get a combination ticket to explore both the wall around the Old Town and this historical fort.

Checking out St Clare Summer Fayre 2025

When it comes to fayres, England seems to have a lot of them! St Clare Summer Fayre is a yearly event, this one being the second we have gone too. Earlier last year, we got more involved with St Clare’s Hospice, which is what this fayre is put on for. Years ago, Dann’s sister lived out her final days at the hospice, which took very good care of her, so they do have a soft spot in our families heart. The fayre is aimed at raising money for the hospice, but also has stalls from other local charities, along with games and stands of fun stuff to do.
