On the hunt for Cats vs Pickles plush toys | Review

*AD – the items in this review were gifted to our household for this post. All opinions, as always, are our own.

Kai, Amelia and Robin do really love cats. We have two cats and a large mix of stuffed cats already, but when the kids got a hold of Cats vs Pickles, they were excited for the fantasy cats with all these different patterns. Kai had previously put on videos of cats doing funny things, so we already knew that cats were afraid of cucumbers. Cats vs Pickles, made by Cepia LLC, takes this concept – cats being afraid of cucumbers and thus afraid of pickles, and turns them into collectible, adorable cats with their own youtube show and mobile game!

Cats vs Pickles Toys

The cats and pickles themselves are quite varieties. There are so many different characters, each with their own unique look and information about them. In the 2021 line of Cat vs Pickles, there are 230 characters to collect – which is a lot! Each of these characters are sort of bean shaped, with cats having a tail and ears and pickles having a tuff of hair. Pickles are a bit less bean shaped, but still fit in well with the cats! Cats vs Pickles are made of cotton, and polyester fibers, creating the outside, with POM beads and Plastic PP filling them, which ensures they are soft and huggable, with a weighted bottom so they can sit up. The smallest Cats vs Pickles toy are 4 inches tall and 3 inches wide, with the bigger ranges being quite large! The plush toys are soft with beans inside of them as well, making them fun to play around with. Primrose, a very colorful ombre cat and Pinata Pop another rainbow cat, were Amelia and Robin’s favorites. They really liked things that were more colorful or fantasy. Kai liked the robot cat, called Roboticat – a name he guessed before reading the cats name all together. Jelly Bean also went to Kai, who loved that the cat is shaped like a jelly bean, covered in jelly beans, called Jelly Bean. For our pickle, we got Frank – who is featured a lot in the animated shorts on Youtube, but overall the kids were far more excited about the cats then they were pickles!

We headed over to our local Smyths to find more Cats vs Pickles and discovered the large characters – which Amelia fell in love with! She ended up selecting Kitty Cake – who she has nick-named Sprinkles. At the store, we also saw a few more food-themed Cats vs Pickles. You see, all of our pets at home are named after food. So, finding new cats that are also named after food is so fun for us! We found Paw-Purr-Oni – a pizza cat and Cheeseburger Cat, but ended up going with PAw-Purr-Oni due to that pun. There are so many other food-related Cats vs Pickles, like Mint Chippie (a mint ice cream cat), Spaghetti Freddie (a spaghetti cat) and Pawberry Shortcake (a strawberry shortcake cat), that we are keeping our eyes out for!

Cats vs Pickles Animated Shorts

You may be wondering what is the point of Cats vs pickles? Before we took the time to go out and pick out Cats vs Pickles, we actually took a look at their Youtube Channel. They have a variety of Cat vs Pickles content – from little Presents series, which showcases the plush toys in stop motion, giving them personalities and making them come to life, to animated shorts which the kids have been really loving. These little shoes are a few minutes long, without any audio, and show the various cats and pickles interacting. Kai said it reminded him of Angry Birds – in the way that the pickles are the pigs, and the cats are the birds. The pickles are always causing mischief and trying to scare the cats! The cats themselves are just going about their day. We’ve actually watched all of their animations! If your kids are interested in meme-related content, they have videos that follow meme formats too, but keeping to the child friendly approach.

Mobile Game

Inside the tags of the small Cats vs Pickles, you can find a QR code for a free mobile game! This game can also be downloaded directly from GooglePlay or Apple Store, completely for free as well. The game itself is super simple and easy for young children to pick up – you play as a pickle, trying to avoid items falling from the top of the screen by swiping left and right. Through gaining high scores, you can unlock more characters and levels, where you can find different colorful themes to play around with. It’s a very simple game, with in-game ads, but as the children already fell in love with their Cats vs Pickles, they were happy playing this game over and over on their tablets.

Cats vs Pickles are really lovely plush toys – so soft and such a great size to bring around with you. Bringing them to life with the animated shorts and mobile game is such a good idea, as children love to see characters that they know and love seeing their personalities come to life. Cats vs Pickles seems to be an obsession that we aren’t soon going to see the end of, especially with 230 to collect just in the first series.

There are so many, and they come in different sizes too, so you could technically collect 230 small ones and 230 jumbo ones.
