Even children’s bedtime stories get a Halloween twist when October comes! We picked up Christopher Pumpkin, a cute looking children’s story book about a young pumpkin who doesn’t quite fit in, to read before bed this month. We have a few other books, including Winnie the Witch, which fits into the Halloween spirit, but I couldn’t resist a pumpkin trying to throw a party. As this book was a new addition to one of our local stores, I wanted to pick it up while I saw it and before the Christmas decorations filled the shelves.
Christopher Pumpkin is created by a witch to help her set up for a spooky party. He isn’t the only pumpkin minion she makes however, and the rest are all quite different to Christopher. The other pumpkins prefer spooks and scares, while Christopher instead likes pink cupcakes and bunting. He ends up clashing a lot with the other pumpkins and even the witch – but in the end, he uses his eye for everything cute to cause quite a stir with everyone else!
This story is very simple to read, not taking long for younger children. Christopher Pumpkin has very cute illustrations, of both adorable cute things and more cartoon-spooky things like gross pizza and cobwebs. It’s the perfect book for the Halloween season – especially if you normally do Halloween parties! The book contains pictures of most of the other classic monsters and ghouls, which is nice to see, and I love the idea of jack-o-lanterns that can be helpful around the house. The idea of cute jack-o-lanterns not exactly fitting in with monsters works well in the book too and provides a nice lesson on not needing to fit in.
You can find Christopher Pumpkin on Amazon.
This post is apart of our Blogtober series, all with a Halloween or Autumn theme.
