Dr. Martin Schwarz Teeth Whitening Kit | Review

*AD – the items in this review was gifted to our household for this post. All opinions, as always, are our own.

During this lock down, we have been taking the time to do some self care. Taking care of our bodies and minds often gets put aside, but during lock downs, where there is more time stuck at home, it’s important to keep up with your hygiene even more then ever. Both Dann and I tired out the Dr. Martin Schwarz Teeth Whitening kits, which come across a few different products; a bioscaling kit, an expert 38% whitening kit and some mouth trays. Neither of us had ever done this process before, so it was an interesting ride if I am honest!

Bioscaling Kit

First, the instructions within this kit told us to brush and dry our teeth, as normal. Dann brushes his teeth religiously, each day, where as I do tend to get busy and miss a day or two. I have this brown, slightly hidden back tooth that’s been dark for my entire adult life, so I sort of gave up trying to actually care about my teeth as this dark one sticks out so much. This is most of the reason why I put aside dental hygiene, but I am hoping that this is a sort of new era. Bioscaling eliminates bacteria and microorganisms that leave small stains on your teeth if not removed. This can be done daily for up to 12 days. There are two ways to use the bioscaling kit, the first way being to add a little bit to your toothbrush from the syringe and brush your teeth with it, then rinse your mouth out. Another way to use it is to put a thin layer on both the top and bottom mouth guard, then put the guards in your mouth for 20 to 30 minutes. I don’t really like things in my mouth for that long, so we opted for brushing our teeth with this. The gel didn’t feel too weird to brush and didn’t taste too bad. After a normal brushing cycle, we washed out our mouths and moved onto the next kit.

Expert 38% Whitening Kit

The Expert 38% whitening kit was where the real magic happens. This kit suggests using the bioscaling kit first, for the best possible results. This kit wants you to put the gel on the mouth trays and place them in your mouth for 20 to 30 minutes, with no option to brush them onto your teeth. When you get the gel in contact with your teeth, it foams up, covering the entire area. For me, it was very difficult to make the 20 to 30 minute time frame with something in my mouth – if you’re not use to having mouth guards in, you might struggle as well. The results on this kit are really good, even if you don’t meet the entire 30 minutes, you can see how much whiter your teeth are! I was honestly surprised my teeth changed at all, but they were a solid 2 shades lighter, which is a very good result when not hitting the 30 minutes total. My dark tooth was the most changed, but that does make sense considering how dark it is. The boxed instructions stated to run this course for 1 to 3 days in a row and for a max of 12 days total by the looks of things. There are more requirements – you cannot eat or drink for two hours after the treatment for the best results and it does restrict what you can eat and drink in the next 24 hours as well, which is worth considering when setting out to use this kit. Dann also saw a difference in his teeth, though they are quite white to begin with in my opinion!

Overall, I felt that these kits were pretty interesting. If you don’t want to go to the dentist to get your teeth whitened and want to try an at home kit, the Dr. Martin Schwarz kits are very easy to use and come with a lot of good instructions. They do make a difference to your teeth, but I would probably suggest getting a more fitted mouth tray if you can or if you are sensitive to bulky items in your mouth for long amounts of time. Neither of these kits hurt afterwards or caused any issues, which is always good, especially as Dann has very sensitive teeth which often hurt after lots of cold items, but these didn’t hurt him at all.

In days of trying to look after yourself more, it might be a good idea to reset the color of your teeth and start working towards a healthier smile.

I have pretty white teeth but have tried the over the counter whiteners at times. (Crest white strips) They work a little but the pain that I feel for the next two days is ROUGH. Instead every night I’ve been using a mouthwash I made of peroxide with a splash of Listerine for flavor, and it works!! I’m glad this is working for you both!
