Chasing Around a Flying Bee

[Ad- gifted product] Wicked Uncle has so many fantastic toys that are perfect for the gift giving season! This Flying Bee toy is one that Robin has really taken too, as she loves bees, running around, and the novelty of watching it fly with her hand. This toy is basically ready out of the box, as it doesn’t need batteries and comes with a cable that you can plug into a USB to charge the bee. I do like that it doesn’t need batteries, though this is one of the older charging connections, so do bare that in mind.

You do need to pop on two of the wings for the Flying Bee – which when I first took it out, was sure I was putting them on wrong. Turns out, they look super wrong when put on wrong so it’s easy to see when they are connected correctly. It’s also easy to snap them back out and change them, but they do feel sturdy when in the bee as well. Once you have charged your bee and have the wings in, it’s basically all ready to play.

There is a small switch on the Flying Bee that you need to turn on – which we do while holding onto the bee’s head. This is to ensure it doesn’t fly off before we are ready. Then, by putting your hand underneath the bee, it will start to lift off. Smaller movements are key, though Robin tends to chase it around, trying not to let the bee hit the ground (which it just does hover above anyway, but this is still a fun game to her). There are a few different antenna-like things that hang off of the bee, which when they hit a surface or something similar, the entire thing stops flying.

This is a very clever mechanic, as at one point Robin bent her long hair over the bee, getting it caught in it, and the Flying Bee instantly stopped. This let us easily untangle her from the bee without anyone getting hurt. The movement of the plastic wings isn’t to intense either, you can literally grab it and it doesn’t break at all. This little bee toy does pack a big punch and is very fun to play with, especially if you have a child full of energy.

It’s like giving your child a personal drone with a sense of humour. The hand-controlled flight turns the living room into a buzzing obstacle course, and the auto-stop feature is genius—especially when long hair tries to join the party. Bonus points for no batteries and maximum giggles
