Dann is a huge fan of Christmas Markets and I am a huge fan of themed-limited time events. So when Dann said “hey, do you want to go to the Frankfurt Christmas Market Birmingham this evening”, despite living about 3 hours away, I was well up for the adventure! We’ve been to Christmas Markets before, but hadn’t made it to this specific market, which states that it’s very German inspired.
The Frankfurt Christmas Market Birmingham is a large Christmas market that has a sort of central bit by the fountain in Birmingham, but then spans down, along a bunch of roads. It’s a very well spread out market, providing plenty of space to walk around, line up at stalls, and not feel too overcrowded. We went on a Tuesday night in November, and it was fairly busy considering the time and date. We did appreciate how spread out it was, as there was plenty of places to hang out with friends and lots of standing tables to enjoy food.
With that, let’s get into the food at Frankfurt Christmas Market Birmingham. We found that a lot of the stalls had the same, traditional German food, with a main feature being a 1/2 meter sausage. Dann and our friends Tom and Ryan got this sausage, while I went for the steak sandwich. Let me tell you, that steak was so well seasoned, clearly marinated, and was the best thing we had all night. Though the sausage is huge, it’s just not as well seasoned or as tasty – though it makes for a good picture! There were lots of stalls with candies, of course, as well as chocolate covered marshmallows. We got some candied nuts – of which there were tons of odd flavors to try like mango and strawberry. I got caramel pistachios, which were delicious. We also tried some chocolate covered strawberries, which had a surprise chocolate covered grape on the stick – what an interesting idea. They also sold chocolate hot peppers!! Another big highlight was the stand with potatoes and mushrooms. These crispy potatoes, well cooked mushrooms, and then garlic sauce on top was everyone’s favorite. I also tried the sugar / cinnamon pretzel, which was okay.
There wasn’t a huge amount of options for food; we also saw cheese breads, pretzels made into sandwiches, and more sausage dishes, but those above were enough for us to feel full. Frankfurt Christmas Market Birmingham has a signature glass, much like the deposit glass system at Winder Wonderland, where you pay 5£ on top of the drink price to get the glass, and then can trade it back in for you 5£ back, however there were seven different designs for the mugs and two different beer glass designs, meaning if you want to collect, you need to drink a lot of hot chocolate! Everyone was extremely nice and even let our friends pick the specific designs they wanted to take home, allowing them to bring a clean glass home instead of carrying around a dirty one!
This Christmas Market didn’t have any sort of fairground games and only had a traditional merry-go-round, however the main focus was the food stalls and different stalls where you could purchase gifts. I found this to be nice, felt like a great place to hang out instead of full of children wanting to play every game there. There also wasn’t so many people trying to sell you stuff, apart from people who had no association with the market, trying to get you to give them your cups or buy roses for some reason.
The decorations on the buildings included moving parts and were so beautiful, it’s worth going to the Frankfurt Christmas Market Birmingham just to check out the buildings, hear the bells ding their song, and look at the various moving parts! There is a radio station in one area, headlining some sing-a-longs and other music to dance too, and everything feels quite friendly and traditional!

I had a blast at the Frankfurt Christmas Market in Birmingham with Dann and friends! 🎄 Despite the 3-hour drive, it was worth the adventure. This German-inspired market was spacious, not too crowded, and had delicious food. We indulged in 1/2 meter sausages, steak sandwiches, candied nuts, and more. The highlight was crispy potatoes and mushrooms with garlic sauce. Plus, the signature glass collection system added a fun element to our visit. 🥨🍖🍷 It’s a must-visit for Christmas market enthusiasts!
