We do have a massive shelf of board games in our household, and really do enjoy playing them! Recievently, we’ve found ourselves quite busy with after school activities and homework, but as October break gets closer, having a spooky board game on hand is always a good idea! Robin, Dann and I all took some time out of our Saturday to play Ghost Castle – a new tabletop game that takes up a lot of vertical space, becoming a sort of mouse-trap style board game!

Ghost Castle has you using the box to create the base of the board, then folding various cardboard and plastic pieces together to create a big vertical map for your characters to go around. Depending on the number of players that are playing, you get one or two characters on your team. We all got two. Both of your team’s characters need to make their way through the haunted Ghost Castle and out the front door! This is easier said then done.

You see, this board is divided into four sections. These sections are quite big, you will need to walk around the board to play. As you roll a die, you move around them, there are spaces which are red and full of danger. If any player rolls the ghost on the die, they then get to activate the plastic, glow-in-the-dark ghost at the top of the castle. This ball will then roll, randomly, into one of the four sections, setting off a trap. Every character on a dangerous spot in that section will have to go back to the blue stop before it. This can be a real setback!

Ghost Castle has such cool mechanics, through that giant ghost at the top. One section rolls the ball down the stairs, knocking down all the characters. Another section drops an axe onto a bit of unstable ground, another hits a painting and the final section rolls a ball across the floor knocking down more. This means that you will spend a lot of time moving back and resetting. To make matters more challenging, to leave, you must roll the exact amount of spaces you need to make it out the door! This evens the playing field a lot towards the end of the game.

Robin, Dann and I had never played a game like this. There is a lot of fun in triggering the ghost and seeing where that ball rolls! The way this ball interacts with the sections is really fun to watch too. Robin really loved triggering the ghost and seeing who it ended up haunting. Ghost Castle is a very fun board game, and the interactive elements are very unique. We did have a little trouble with set-up, but it was well worth it.

This sounds like such an interactive game, and really cool that you utilise the box in order to create the whole game. Sounds like a fun one x
