Hoddog – Building a large hot dog

[Ad – Gifted Products] Sometimes, you find games that just feel themed for summer! Hoddog, from the creators of Sosig, just feels like a game you should have out at your next BBQ. This is a smaller boxed game, that we took along to our Monday night board game session at Geek Retreat, where you simply need to make the longest hot dog possible.

Hoddog is simply enough, everyone gets delt a hand of cards. Then, a row of cards are placed in the middle of the table along with a facedown deck of cards. On your turn, you can take two cards from the cards you can see from the middle or take three from the face down deck or play some cards from your hand. If you play cards from your hand, you will be connecting and moving a giant hot dog.

Placing down cards can only be done if you have a set. These individual cards have numbers on them and you need to have the right number of matching cards to play it. Think five cards with fives on them or seven with seven on them. The cards which have a one on them can be played as a one or, if you get five ones, as a set of five. They are the only set of cards that work differently.

In the facedown deck in the middle of the table there are Splat ketchup cards. Hoddog has you playing until all five splat cards are revealed, then the game ends instantly. Whoever has the longest hot dog is then declared the winner. The cards themselves are quite cute, creating some fun toppings on the hot dog pieces. Robin and Amelia very quickly understood the game and we were able to play a bunch of rounds, as it’s such a fast paced one.
