I have a job that requires international travel and Dann and I very much love a little holiday! Years back, our phone plans included more international roaming, but as time has progressed, it has become something that you need to pay for additionally, which is often a big ordeal to activate the passes (or at least, it is for me on my current network) so we have turned to Holafly.
Holafly is a virtual eSIM, so you don’t need to order a physical SIM card and play around with getting it set up on your phone during your flight – something both Dann and I were doing a year ago when we went to America the time before last. This is such a difficult thing to do on a flight as the SIM cards are so tiny. For Holafly, the whole process is extremely easy.
The night before, or even a week before if you are very prepared, you can make an account on their website and purchase an eSIM for the amount of days that you need service within the country that you are traveling to. This eSIM is purchased instantly and you are sent a QR code via email. Scanning that QR code sets up your eSIM right in your phone. You can also download the Holafly app and login (as well as purchase eSIMs within the app, if you’d like).
After your eSIM is set up, you just need to travel. Once you hit your destination, I tend to restart my phone because I am impatient, but your eSIM just works. Holafly didn’t need anything done from me when I landed in Canada and just worked. I did turn off my primary eSIM in my phone’s settings, but this isn’t completely needed! It’s just a force of habit from having two SIM cards in the past.
You can then see on the app how many days you have left of your eSIM and if you have limited data, how much you have used. A lot of their plans are unlimited in their data, which is super handy. It’s actually a really simple app to navigate (or otherwise you can use a computer to log into your account and see the same information). I found the whole thing to just be easy!
