[Ad- gifted experience] Every year, we go to London MCM Comic Con, and this year both Amelia and Kai had the day off of school, making it a fun event with the teens! MCM Comic Con has, in the last few years, added a gaming section called EGX, which features a bunch of games to go along with all of the different shops, stalls, and geeky things that Comic Con has to offer. This year, we went on both Friday with the teens and then Sunday just as Dann and I, to do some more shopping and explore some games.

If you’ve never been to MCM Comic Con, has a lot of aspects to it. Firstly, it’s sort of a giant shop! There are tons of different stalls of items from DnD things, to swords, to Pokemon Cards. There were a few too many stalls that had drop-shipped items for my liking, but I do very much enjoy being able to shop such specific hobbies in real life. On the Friday, Amelia had the goal of shopping, so we spent a lot of time checking out all of the different stalls. She ended up with primarily Pokemon themed items, which is fitting. There were a number of artists that took part in a special Pokemon card event, where you could go to their specific stalls and ask them about these cards that they had designed, and then trade them for a card of the same Pokemon. We collected a bunch of the cute ones of these which was like a scavenger hunt! A lot of stalls actually had these micro-events. Amelia gym battled (dice battled) a shop owner to get a badge, and if you collected all of those, you could get a lanyard, for example.

London MCM Comic Con also has a big area for independent artists, where they are selling their own art. We both very much enjoyed checking out all of the cute stalls here, and there was plenty of Pokemon fan art, along with basically any other anime that you’d enjoy. Along with the sort of art stalls, there are a bunch of stalls that have characters or big displays. The Lego stall had a little museum of Legos that were built and a giant Lego car that you can take a picture in – and if you do, you get a free sticker sheet. There was a Pop Mart stall that had a character all dressed up for pictures too, which was extremely adorable. There are other interactive areas of London MCM Comic Con like talks that you can listen to by famous actors, signings being done by them, a wrestling ring, a Asian-Pop stage, and even a giant DnD area where you can build your own character and have an artist draw what you’ve chosen.

London MCM Comic Con did have their EGX area, which had some games in it. We’d always like to see more games, but did like that they had games at all. All of these were free to play, with some busses of triple-A games and then a bunch of stands of indie games you’ve likely never played before. Kai and Dann spent a lot of time playing the video games and a little time shopping, where as Amelia and I were the opposite. We did check out some of the cosplayers, which is another unique thing about London MCM Comic Con! Amelia, this year, dressed up as her Pokemon Go character – which was really fun to create. Someone even asked her if they could take her picture as they knew she was from Pokemon Go. We saw a lot of other video game characters and anime characters dotted around, which is fun.

London MCM Comic Con is part shop, part community with a lot going on. It’s one of those fun events to go to if you have interests in a lot of geeky things. Having the one in October in London also makes for a great opportunity to grab Christmas gifts too!
You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
