My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure

Robin is a big fan of video games – and enjoys playing on the Xbox in our front room more than other platforms. Most of the games that we have on the Xbox are often for older children or adults, with her struggling to get jumps in them or needing help on tricky levels. It’s really great when we find video games aimed at her age group, that actually can be played by her! When we heard My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure was coming out, Robin watched the trailer and was pumped.

Her older sister, Amelia, was obsessed with My Little Pony a few years back, so naturally, Robin was as well. Though she wasn’t as into it as Amelia was, she watched all of the shows, played with the toys, and has a giant doll house for her ponies! When we loaded up the game, Robin was already impressed with all of the adorable ponies popping up on the screen! The story of My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure has you helping Sunny discover her powers, and use them to help the ponies who live around the town.

The map feels quite open world in My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure, allowing Robin to explore around wherever she wants to go. In children’s games, this can often be hard for children as they may not have any direction, however, in this game, there is a little butterfly that then will show you where your next mini-game or pony who wants to talk to you is, if you want to follow them! There are stars all over the map to collect, flowers to jump on, and ponies who have mini-games for you to complete. Robin really enjoyed a mini-game where you herd bunnies and crabs (at the same time!) into different gates – but they could run away if you moved too fast or if you ran into specific patches of ground. She also really loved playing a mini-game that was rhythm and song based, even though she wasn’t very good at it, to help another pony.

In the world, you are able to unlock various different accessories to wear as well as purchase some with the stars that you find. Robin was pretty determined to get all of the items in My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure, so once the main story was done (as she had completed everything within the main storyline) she went around looking for hidden stars and re-trying mini-games so that she could gain more stars from doing better a them! Some of the games were quite challenging, but Robin got there in the end. Her favorite thing in game was the roller skates, that allow your pony to zoom around faster, exploring the map while skating! She also loved unlocking her wings and wearing them as well.

My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure is a really lovely, well designed game with stunning graphics to boot. It’s a great game for younger children, especially with things like the butterfly to guide them and easy to follow, visual instructions on mini-games. It’s just a well made game, and Robin’s favorite thus far.

My boys love My Little Pony for a while! They haven’t thought about it in a couple of years but I bet they would still play this game. We don’t have an xbox so I’ll have to see if it’s available on other consoles.

We have some huge My LIttle Pony fans in the family. My four granddaughters AND my niece love these characters and anything that has to do with them.

It’s good that there are more games out there aimed at a younger audience, and this one sounds awesome. I never really got into My Little Pony when I was a kid, but I’d have played just like her and wanted to get every accessory I could x
