Pounce – All about grabbing letters

[Ad – Gifted Products] While on holiday at Center Parcs, we tend to grab some easy to pack board games to do in the mornings or in the evenings. This time, we grabbed Pounce, which is a simple card game all about strategically grabbing letters that match a word you are trying to get while also matching the category.

Pounce is a very simple card game where you place out a bunch of letter cards, equal to the number of players minus one. Then, one of the cards gets flipped over revealing a category. Everyone then needs to think of a word starting with the revealed letter that they want that fits the category. If they are the first, they get that letter, but they can only get one letter per round. These letters are then collected into their hand to make a five letter or more word.

It’s sort of strategic, though people can really get in their mind about the letters that they must have – which was an issue Kai kept having! The game itself if quite simple, easy and interesting. Robin and Amelia had a good time playing, though I feel that maybe with all of the teens, it was more challenging for Robin. The designs of the cards are very vibrant and fun! It makes for a simple word association game. We found the use of it to be very fun, but a quite quick game, as the rounds became very fast paced as we always flipped over the less common letters like Q and X, and kept the vowels. We do like the mix of strategy in Pounce – it’s not always about thinking of a word first, but instead about getting the right word for your master plan, so to speak.
