Puffin Rush – Artic Animal Board Game

Puffin Rush

[Ad- gifted product] We have played many board games in our time, but we haven’t played a board game designed by a 9 year old! Puffin Rush is a simple, well made board game that has been designed by a kid – which is very inspiring to Robin, Amelia and Kai! While Kai had DnD at our local Geek Retreat, we played a few rounds of Puffin Rush, as it’s a two to four player game.

Puffin Rush is a pretty simple game to learn; a six by six grid of tiles is placed in the middle of the table. Each player gets an ice float platform and a matching puffin. They each pick a different side and place their ice tile at the edge, connecting to a tile. On their turn, each player must do an action; moving their ice float or moving onto a tile. If the tile is faced down, you must flip it over before moving onto it. These tiles are where the real game begins; there are so many different animals to discover.

Puffin Rush is a game worth having the rules within an arms reach, as there are little descriptions for each of the different tiles you will encounter. Many of the animals out on the playing field have a little fact about them, that relates on how the tile works. This fact really helps you remember what they do, as you play more and more. Bunnies are fast, so you get a bonus turn; reindeer are able to swap any tile with a snow pile tile! There are a bunch of cute animals to encounter – but as a puffin moving around the board, you do have a mission.

Your aim is to find a fish, fill your mouth (by flipping over the tile) then make your way to your puffin home. As the board starts revealing itself, you can find your own home, though some tiles do eat your fish or can reset you back to your starting tile. Games can be over quite quickly if someone is lucky! Robin ended up picking a first tile that had her eating a fish, and three tiles away, Dann revealed her home – giving her a perfect path. There are chances to mess with other players, especially with the reindeer, but she is very good at these types of games! Puffin Rush feels like an ideal game for all ages, and the art style is fantastic too.

I can’t believe this was designed by a 9 year old, that’s so awesome. And sounds like a fun game, although I would always need reminding what the cards do as I always forget those kind of things x
