Seaside Cupcake Class with Sweet Designs by Jennie

It’s been another month, so Amelia and I excitedly went along to another cupcake class with Sweet Designs by Jennie, this time it was a new design; seaside cupcakes, perfect for the beautiful weather we had been having lately. Sweet Designs by Jennie hand-creates these designs based on what has inspired her, and as it’s seaside weather, she thought about the seaside. This class was primarily done with fondant work, and as usual, it’s on the smaller side with 6 people attending at once. We are regulars here, so we know quite a few of the others who attend, and this class had some great vibes!

When we arrived, all of the different tools as well as the buttercreams and cupcakes were out for us, which makes it really easy to get right into things. We started off with cutting our circle fondant toppers, as they need to take time to set up, and created the ones which had ice cream cones on! This was done by a lot of shaping and using a little tool to draw the lines on the ice cream cone. There was a lot of texturing different cupcakes.

We used a plunger to create stars for the seaside huts, which did take a lot of rolling out, cutting, texturing, and adding details. We also used a stamper to create seagulls for a cupcake that had a lovely kite in the middle of it, and some frosting work. Frosting for two of the seaside cupcakes involved putting on blue frosting then dolloping some of the white frosting, so we then can mix them around together to get a sort of sea-looking vibe. We also created a cupcake with a sand texture, by frosting a cupcake and dipping it into cookie crumbs, before adding a bunch of fondant shells we created using a stamper and some hand designed bits like a shovel, bucket, and sand castle. I really liked all of the little small details in these and how none of the actual frosting mattered at all.

We also made a life ring that went on the water, which was pretty simple to make, and one that had beach items like a hat, towel and sandals, which was honestly the most challenging one to do. Covering it in sand was easy, but forming the little sandals, creating the hats, and forming a towel that didn’t fall apart was just a journey. As always, Jennie did a fantastic job explaining each step and making sure everyone was really supported, which did help! All of these cupcakes came out really adorable and we cannot wait until the next one. We took ours to a Pokemon Picnic, where Amelia was able to share her cupcakes with her friends.

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
