[Ad- gifted experience] We love going along to the theatre and seeing performances. Recently, we have been taking the kids along with us, to a few selected performances, as Robin had gone to see the Nut Cracker at school and has been talking about it ever since. Recently, we went along to see Show Stopper! The Improvised Musical at Trinity Theatre – which was an amazing time.
Trinity Theatre is a smaller sized theatre than we had previously attended, with a decent sized bar, a small children’s play stage and a little art gallery inside of the theatre itself. We arrived a little early, so Amelia, Kai and Robin all put on a little pre-play performance for us, with Kai directing and the girls acting out little plays using the costumes that were provided. It was super adorable! We then filed into the theatre and took our seats.
Show Stopper! The Improvised Musical is one I had heard of before. The musical is written by the audience, on the night of the show, meaning that everyone who attends actually gets to experience a wonderful, unique show that’s never the same again! This performance featured four actors and one narrator, who was the bridge between us and the actors. At the start of the performance, we shouted out locations, then voted by screaming for the one we liked the most, before picking some other musicals to inspire scenes. Then, the real performance began.
Our show was about two sets of siblings; two sisters and two brothers, who were at a camping place. They both had different reasons for being on holiday and going to this location. Sometimes, the narrator would pause the actors, adding in a few lines or asking the audience for some things; a place that might make for a good day dream between two of the people, a catch phrase to say before toasting a drink. It’s an interesting format, and the talent of the actors to suddenly change where they were going with the story is amazing. This story was really captivating, as we watched it form and change.
During the short intermission at Show Stopper! The Improvised Musical at Trinity Theatre, we were able to use Twitter to tell them what we wanted to see next. The rest of the play got really chaotic and messy after that, with DNA testing happening in the camping place, a baby being left in a corner, and a very complex relationship had between siblings, but the show ended with a good message and somehow wrapped up nicely. We all said we’d go back to see Show Stoppers! The Improvised Musical again – and I have already set my sites on the next show from Trinity Theatre that we are going to all go and see.
You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
That sounds like a fun idea for an interactive show. We haven’t been to the theatre for a while but my daughter is going to see Cinderella in London tomorrow with her school,
Oh wow! Cinderella is a great play.
What a great sounding show and love that you can tweet to say what you would like to see in the second half
It’s a great use for social media!
I have never been to the theatre before. But this show sounds really different. I love how it’s all about the audience’s participation. Would love to see this.
It is such a great show, and the theatre was lovely too.
This sound like a fun show for everyone! I love that the audience gets to interact!
