Amelia has been so excited for the next cupcake class! We both go together, as daughter-mother time, each month. She picked the Spooky Cupcake Class for October, which felt very fitting and had some fantastic designs! Unlike the previous cupcake classes we have attended so far, these cupcakes all felt completely different in design. What I mean by that is, often, there are two cupcakes that are featured and unique, as well as two sets of two that are similar as sort of side cupcakes. Sweet Designs by Jennie releases her cupcake classes each month, with tons of new ones to choose from.
If you aren’t familiar with the cupcake classes by Sweet Designs by Jennie, they are themed boxes of six cupcakes for each person to decorate, in small classes of up to six people. The cupcakes themselves are vanilla and are already baked by the time we get there. We also each get some drinks to enjoy during the about 2 hour long class. All of the items and tools needed are also provided. Jennie walks us through the class, teaching us how to make each decoration!
The spooky class wasn’t one that involved very much piping, with the big focus on fondant modeling. We made a ghost by creating a ball of fondant, then making a thing covering and cutting it out, we made a mummy out of fondant circles we cut and strips we placed on it. There was a Frankenstein’s monster face, created out of a mix of molding and using cutters. The brain was very interesting – made through creating tubes of fondant that then mirrored each other. The grave was a challenging one – we created the bones by sculpting and then cut the tomb stone using a boarder cutter.
All of these cupcakes felt fun to make and Jennie is very good at seeing how the members of the class are doing and providing more time for things that are more challenging like creating bones. This class used a lot of Oreo cookies for dirt and had us pipe grass. As Amelia loves Oreo, she was super excited and enjoyed snacking on the leftovers as well! My favorite cupcake to create was the cute little pumpkins, as they are easy to model and look fantastic, where as Amelia enjoyed the ghost where she added cat ears and a nose.
These cupcakes ended up quite big and sweet. Kai, Dann and Robin enjoyed eating them up when we got home – and so did we. As always, Sweet Designs by Jennie provided to be a very fun time out, where we got to have fun creating and then eating when we got back. We’ve already booked up our next class.
You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
Thank you so much for such a detailed, positive review of the classes! It’s always so much fun having you and Amelia here, you always create the most beautiful cupcakes. Really looking forward to the next one!
