Start each day with A Dad Joke A Day | Book Review

A Dad Joke a Day

*AD – the item in this review was gifted to our household for this post. All opinions, as always, are our own.

I feel like all kids go through a joke phases – when they want to tell jokes, even if they don’t quite understand them. I remember having joke books as a kid, reciting them out to my family with various levels of success in the jokes. Kai is the joker in our family, with his Minecraft joke book at the ready, telling us gaming-themed jokes, so when we got a copy of A Day Joke a Day, he was delighted. This book provides 365 dad jokes, one for each and every day of the year! This book is written by DaddiLife – a parenting and lifestyle blogger who seems to know a lot about being a dad and jokes!

Dann is the dad in our family, and he is very good at lame dad jokes – even when he probably shouldn’t be joking as I am trying to get things done. Either way, he seems to know more dad jokes and quick puns than anyone else in our house. The book, A Dad Joke a Day, gives you a dad joke for each calendar day, so that you can tell a joke during the day. Each morning, Kai has been going to his book and reading over the joke, telling it to all of us. Some of them are quite easy to guess, while others have us scratching our heads until the punchline is told. It’s a great way to start the day and really brings us all together as a family, interacting with something funny at the start of each day. As it is a book and not a calendar, I feel by the time next year rolls around, we will have forgotten most of these jokes, so they can all easily be re-told to us, continuing the game.

Before Kai dived into the jokes, he did read the clever introduction, which gives a bit of a history on the concept of Dad Jokes, telling readers how they have come back into popularity. Along with this, there are a bunch of rules on how to tell a good dad joke, from waiting a few seconds before the punchline to opening your eyes wide when you deliver them. These introductions to the book are really interesting to read, and well written themselves. Though, I am not sure if Kai has successfully used these rules, but it’s interesting watching him try!

A Dad Joke A Day is a really lovely way to start your day, if you choose to use the book in that way. Otherwise, it still provides a bunch of silly, funny, and eye rolling jokes that you can memorise and tell to your friends, family, and maybe even your own dad.

I can imagine that starting the day with a Dad joke can make the entire day much better. I used to love joked when I was a kid too. Now, to my shame, I don’t think I can remember more than 5.
