A Day Out at Bodiam Castle

I am a big fan of history and do enjoy walking around castles. There is something quite fun about looking around at ruins, especially those that use to look so daunting and impressive, but now have missing pieces, are no longer used, and are not up to current standards of living. I don’t often pass up an opportunity to share history with my children either, and with our National Trust cards in hand, I was excited to get along to some castles! One of the first on our list was Bodiam Castle, since it’s not that far from our home at all. This site end up being one of our favourite sites from the National Trust in Essex.

A Day Out at Glow Wild Wakehurst 2020

Each year, we make an effort to go to at least one lantern or light themed event. They pop up around the wintertime, showcasing the best versions of lights! This year, things were a little different, but we did end up finding a light event in our tier, with plenty of precautions, that we could go to! That event, as you probably have guessed, is Glow Wild at Wakehurst.

Upon entering Wakehurst, we followed the signs to the start of the walk. There were plenty of staff dotting around reminding people to wear masks, socially distance, and keep moving throughout the walk. Even though Glow Wild is an outdoor event, it’s one that does require masks, which is always nice. At the main start of the walk, there are a few little treat stalls – selling muffins, coffees, and hot chocolates. We didn’t purchase anything here, but joined the line to start the walk! After picking out a lantern to carry with us, we started along the trail.

A Day out at Standen House | A Beale Family Christmas

Jupiter recently got a National Trust membership as this year (and into next) seems to be one where primarily only outdoor events are what we are going to be getting along too. This membership covers a lot of parks, historical houses, and areas within Britain that we are going to aim to explore. So, when checking out the Christmas section of the National Trust website, we stumbled upon Standen House, where the Beale Family once lived – and though we didn’t really know who that was, we were excited to take a look around. Standen House ended up being one of our favorite National Trust sites in Essex.

A Day Out at Spooky Gudetama the Lazy Egg x Artbox Cafe & Boutique

If you frequent this blog (or my instagram) you may have noticed that we love the Artbox Cafe! We have been there for Pusheen and Gudetama, but when Gudetama got a spooky look (and spooky treats added to the menu) we had to go back down to Brighton to try out some of the new Halloween-themed treats! Along with their regular menu of delicious treats – ice creams, cheese cakes, soups, and sandwiches, there is a select dessert menu with a drink for the spooky Autumn season. If you were unable to attend this pop-up, consider this Cake shop online check out your favourite cake.

We, of course, tried both of these desserts, as well as the Pumpkin Spice latte, and had a lovely time! As always, Claire went along with us. Let’s get into it.

Mermaid Lessons with South Coast Mermaids

[Ad- gifted experience] I love the water! When I was a child, I would spend every moment I could in my nanny’s pool, swimming until the sun went down. This year, if you’ve been checking out my Instagram, you’ll know I’ve been at the beach nearly every week. I am basically a mermaid stuck in a human body, with silly legs that stop me from having fins. When I found out that South Coast Mermaids do lovely mermaid lessons – and who doesn’t want to be a mermaid – so I was very excited to go! South Coast Mermaids do adult and children swimming lessons, as well as parties. This lesson is post COVID, so we were social distancing mermaids, something that our instructor, Anna, kept in mind during the entire lesson. I attended one at the Lido Arundel, which is a lovely setting with a castle peaking over the treeline!
