When it comes to gin and tonic, sometimes it’s fun to switch out your tonic for a variety of different flavored sodas! Throughtons Premium Mixers come in a wide variety of flavors, that are crafted right in Northern Ireland. The ingredients in each drink are naturally sourced, blended with County Armagh spring water, without any artificial sweeteners, flavorings or preservatives – so they are simply good mixers! We got three of their drinks to try – which are all listed in the Soft Drinks category – so they could be a drink on their own or used to make a little cocktail!

Troughton’s Premium Valencia Orange

Let’s start off with my favorite – the Thorughton’s Premium Valencia Orange. This drink was the most drinkable out of the bottle – tasting like an upper class orange soda. The orange soda could stand up to vodka – it was nice, sweet, refreshing – everything I look for in a drink. I quite like vodka too, so having a sweet flavor that can stand up to the harshness of that spirit is always impressive. The orange really shined through above all else in this drink and it’s really quite the people pleaser.

Troughton’s Premium Raspberry Blush Tonic

Dann’s favorite is the Troughton’s Premium Raspberry Blush Tonic, which was much tarter then the Valencia Orange soda. Bizzarly, I couldn’t taste much of the raspberry (and it’s not listed to have raspberry on the bottle) but on the website it does mention raspberry a lot so I feel that this is probably just an issue with the label. This soda is quite tart – like what Dann loves to drink – and can stand up well to sweeter gins. Throwing in a watermelon flavored gin did it well and Dann quite enjoyed it.

Troughton’s Premium Sicilian Lemonade

Not as tart as the Blush Tonic but not as sweet as Valencia Orange, brings us to the Troughton’s Premium Sicilian Lemonade. This soda again, tasted like a upper class version of lemonade – but on the tart side. It’s another tonic that would be good for a sweet gin, we added a bit of apple gin which set well with it. It’s a great, clearly premium lemonade that does well at being a delicious lemonade.

It’s worth noting that Throughton’s has a bunch of lovely cocktail recipes if you want to get fancy with your drinks – though we only added splashes of spirits ourselves – as well as mocktails which look really lovely. Having all of these different recipes makes them more enticing to me, as it really shows the variety a simple soda can have. If you are looking to switch around your tonics and try something new, Thoughton’s has these flavors and more!
