When I opened my gallery the other day, out of curiosity, I scrolled right back to the start of 2026 and did a quick count. By the end of October, I had over 1083 photos from days out, random weekends, dinners, the kids being silly. Of all of those, I can count on one hand the ones we have printed. One canvas, two framed prints, a handful stuck to the fridge. The rest live on my phone, where almost nobody ever sees them.
That got me thinking about “which personalised photo gifts actually last?”. This is exactly the type of question MYPICTURE, a UK photo-gift brand and part of The Customization Group, is asking right now in their personalised gifting survey. Everyone who takes part gets 15% off at MYPICTURE and goes into the draw for one of three £50 vouchers. (I have put the full details at the bottom of this post.)
The memories we see every day
All the family photos that end up as canvas prints in our house have one thing in common: they are candid. I do not look for or want posed group photos. I try to have organic moments that I will cherish and value more.
For instance, the canvas above our sofa is from a summer day out we had as a family. The kids are mid-run, Dann is laughing at something I did not catch, and nobody is looking at the camera. It is the kind of photo that would have scrolled past on my phone forever, but it works on the wall because it captures what we were like that afternoon.
Canvas prints work best with candid shots because the texture softens everything. There is no glare off the glass, no sharp frame edges, and small imperfections in the photo (phone grain, odd lighting) mostly disappear. It makes it easy to put a real moment up on the wall instead of waiting for a professional one that will never happen.
We did a family book
This is old school, but I really appreciate having a photo book printed each year. Usually I get one per year, and I start in January to gather the previous twelve months (kid’s birthdays, days out, a couple holidays, and some other memories that I consider important).
Here is what I did not expect: the photo book gets looked at more than anything else in the house. The kids pull it off the shelf when their cousins come over, pointing out trips they had forgotten and arguing about who was taller back then. Grandparents go through it on every visit. Even Dann and I open it when we need reminding what a good year looked like.
What I kept on the phone
To be completely honest, most of our days out never make it any further than the camera roll. Looking back at this year, these are the ones that did not survive the “would I actually put this up?” test:
- The group shot where somebody was not looking (every single time)
- Grey-weather photos that looked flat on screen and would look worse on a wall
- The ones I took as a reminder for the blog, not because they captured a moment
- Obviously, some random screenshot (which I forget to delete once I don’t need it)
Now is your time to win and print
MYPICTURE is gathering answers from UK families on which personalised photo gifts they keep, and why. The survey takes about 2 minutes. Everyone who finishes it unlocks a 15% discount code at the end, and if you want, you can be one of three lucky winners to win the £50 gift voucher.
Whichever family photos you would print, I would love to know which ones made it onto your wall.
