Spooky Frights at Halloween at Kew Gardens 2026

It’s nearly the end of October, but as we have all of the half term, we wanted to do another spooky trail. For our household, it’s super important to get out each day of the break, especially as all of us get a little wrapped into our phones and bored when inside all day. Kai had an evening out with his friends, so Amelia, Robin, Dann and I, along with Claire, went out to Halloween at Kew Gardens. We’ve previously been a few years back, but it had been quite some time!

Halloween at Kew Gardens does have you entering with whatever entrance you purchased, and then walking for quite some time. Once you get to the food village, you are nearly at the trail! We stopped at the food village and grabbed some burgers, loaded tater tots (which were truly fantastic) and naan pizzas. We decided to do a bit of a walking and eating trail, as we wanted to get on the trail and see it.

Once we got to the trail they scanned us in and we started walking. Halloween at Kew Gardens has different timings with it getting spookier as the night goes on, but it’s still perfectly family friendly! The first actor who welcomed us in, after a tunnel of jack-o-lanterns, was an adventurer in Egypt, saying that we might go missing as we walked through some Egyptian looking ruins into a bunch of mummies. There was a way spookier, scary mummy who was walking around and grunting shortly after that entrance, giving us our first look at spooks!

These different actors have their own sort of stages – areas that are beautifully decorated and feel like the characters live within them. From there, they have various interaction points. When we went, there wasn’t tons of people on most of the walk, so we had a lot of time with these actors. The witch by her huge, very well decorated house asked us to keep an eye out for ingredients on our walk, through signs dotted around, which was a nice touch. A vampire asked what we liked to drink, which Robin said BLOOD to trick him. A scarecrow danced around with us. It was all just a lot of fun! There was a stage at one of the middle points which had a group of vampires teaching a school, where they then started using magic in the form of fire, dancing around with it while teaching. This was spectacular.

The decorations throughout the walk were very much set up in section. Robin and Amelia’s absolute favourite bits were the Skeleton Disco party, which had skeleton head disco balls and giant skeletons with different animatronic eyes. I really liked the spider tunnel, which was glowing in the blue light. Dann very much liked the spooky grave yard, which had a spooky actor who was funny and a great view of the large moon overhead. Claire liked that the trail wasn’t too spooky, and found a lot of it fun. It was such a evening walk, which was so well done.

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
