Wimbledon Leisure Centre and Spa

Dann and I have decided that this year is the year of spas. We have been to quite a few spas previously, and really enjoy relaxing within spas, going into saunas, spending time away from technology, etc. As such, we are going to be exploring a variety of spas from more affordable ones to more expensive ones, and find the best spa for us! Better Health is our most common chain, with lots of different locations all around our area, so we started off the year by inviting two of our friends to the Wimbledon Leisure Centre and Spa!

Wimbledon Leisure Centre and Spa

The Better Health Spa Experience in Wimbledon Leisure Centre and Spa is very similar to other Better Health experiences we have had more local to us. You will need to book ahead for the thermal experience to get to use the entire spa. We tried to get some massages booked as well (as there are tons listed on their site) but it became quite clear that there is one staff member that can do massages, and that staff member was only available for about two hours each day. Across all of the different treatments, this meant that there was no real way to book up an experience for two of us, let alone four of us.

When we arrived, we went up to the desk and got our bag which contains a robe, towel, and some flip flops. We then went back out of the spa to the changing area. This was slightly different than other Better Health Spa locations, as the changing rooms were not in anyway attached to the spa area. In the changing rooms you could find everything you’d normally have; showers, private areas, and lots of lockers. These lockers did not take coins and instead people are meant to bring their own locks, however there was a lot of people who just left there stuff out and about.

When entering into the spa at Wimbledon Leisure Centre and Spa, we went through a thin relaxation room, which has a bunch of loungers, some tea (it was Earl Grey the day we went), water, and has little dividers if you want a bit of privacy. The lighting and music in this area is super relaxing and makes for a good break, and it’s the perfect temperature in this room as well. This then lead into the thermal spa.

The thermal spa had everything you’d expect, and was quite compact. Inside the bright, big room there are some heated benches that can be sat on. These benches are a great temperature! In the middle of the room, you can see the jacuzzi, two different showers and two saunas. There is one of those ice chipping things by the outside of the dry sauna too. Inside the main room there is also some citrus infused water, but you have to get the cups (and any fruit you’d like to snack on) from the main desk for some reason.

The Jacuzzi has two different buttons to do some jets and then some more jets! The water was very heavily chlorinated, but the temperature was fantastic and I do love a good jet. My favorite thing is the jacuzzi! Dann loves saunas – the dry sauna is my preferred of the two. There is plenty of seating and a timer inside, the sauna was just what you’d expect! I found the wood a bit hot myself, so took in a towel to sit on. In the wet sauna, there is tons of steam, lots of heating, and the whole room was dripping. When it comes to the showers, there is one simple one and one more complex; the first being a simple dump bucket of cold water, that can shock your body and you pull to dump over you. This is always so funny to me, no idea why, and we took turns pulling the bucket on each other. The other shower was far more hi-tech, with a whole panel to tell you how it works. There are jets, a waterfall. The ice chipper was chipping ice, as expected.

The entire venue was very clean and there was staff coming in to refill the water station and ensure that there wasn’t too much water on the floor itself. It’s just a relaxing, simple little spa that has everything you’d expect.

Ooh, this looks lovely. It’s ages since I last went to the spa. I could DEFINITELY do with a trip soon. I found the Christmas period to be extra stressful last year!

Thank you for sharing your experience! The Wimbledon Leisure Centre and Spa sounds like a great spot for a relaxing day, with a nice mix of thermal amenities. It’s a shame about the massage bookings, but it’s good to hear the spa itself is well-kept and peaceful. I’ll definitely keep it in mind!
