[Ad- gifted product] Whenever I think about oats, I think about breakfast porridge and oatmeal cookies. Neither of which are that flavorful or that fun to be honest! They are classics, but often if you have oats laying around, you might want to try something new, adventurous, and delicious. Also, did you know you can use oats to make savory dishes? They can be just as tasty in savory dishes as they are in sweet dishes! Today, we wanted to share three oat recipes, two savory and one sweet, with you for you to create and enjoy!
Savory Sausage Oatmeal
When it comes to a more filling meal, this savory sausage oatmeal is great for those looking for a filling meal that packs flavor. It still has the oatmeal feel of breakfast oats, but there are tons of layors of flavors. If you are big in texture, you can also add some fried onions on top or something crispy for a bit of a texture change!
Savory Sausage Oatmeal

- 1/2 Onion
- 2 Cloves of Garlic
- 1/2 lb Spicy Sausage – or whatever sausage you enjoy!
Sauce
- 1/2 cup Roasted Red Peppers (Jarred is fine)
- 1 tbsp Tomato Paste
- 1 Clove of Garlic
- 1/2 tsp Paprika
- 1/4 tsp Cayenne
- 1 tbsp White Wine Vinegar
- 1/2 cup Pine Nuts
Toppings
- 4 Fried Eggs
- Freshly Chopped Parsley
Instructions
- Add your oats, water, and seasonings into a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Once the pot starts to bubble, turn it down to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While your oats are heating, chop your onion and add some oil to a pan over medium heat.
- Once your pan is heated, add in the onion and cook for 2 minutes, until soft.
- Add in your garlic and cook for another minute. Then add in your sausage and break it up in your pan. If your sausage had casings, you will want to remove these casings.
- Cook until meat is fully done, about 10 minutes. Then set aside off the heat.
- In a blender or food processor, combine your red peppers, tomato paste, garlic, paprika, cayenne, vinegar and pine nuts and process until smooth.
- Fry up your eggs either in the sausage drippings or a bit of olive oil or butter.
- Split the oatmeal between four bowls, then top with chorizo mixture, sauce, eggs and chopped parsley.

I dip mine in hot sauce myself. This recipe is really easy, but quite flavorful, especially with the amount of effort in creating it.

We tend to eat sweet normally too!
