5 Autumn Activities on a Budget

When the autumn air comes around, the leaves change color, and it’s like we are in a whole new chapter of the year. I love autumn, it’s my favorite time of year, and I quite enjoy doing all sorts of fall activities and enjoying the favorites that happen this time of year – from spooky smelling candles to pumpkin spice everything, but often not everyone has the budget to go out every night and enjoy a latte each day! In our home, we do a mix of activities to keep busy, especially when it comes to specific times of year where there is so much on. If you are looking for some activities on the cheaper or free side, that still can help you get into this spooky session, I’ve created a list for you!

Take a Graveyard Walk

Within walking distance from your house, I am sure there is a graveyard. They often have graveyards at churches, and larger dedicated graveyards in big towns. You can easily go to a graveyard and have a spooky walk around. If you’d like to make your walk more spooky, you can go later at night while the sun is setting or even read some spooky stories while there, taking a break to read a haunted graveyard themed story can really ensure that you feel spooked while being around. Some people have small picnics in their local graveyards (or nearby) this time of year as well.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

One of my personal favorite things to do around this time of year is to visit pumpkin patches. I love seeing the fields of pumpkins and exploring them, finding the best carving pumpkin to carve for my home – however, purchasing a carving pumpkin isn’t something you often have to do. If you take a look at local Christmas Tree farms, they are often pumpkin passes this time of year, and quite a few of them will only charge parking to enter their pumpkin patch, which can often be a very low fee. You can then spend the afternoon walking around, checking out pumpkins, and taking pictures! Pumpkin patches now a days often have photo spots too, so you can get a whole photo shoot, Autumn experience just for the price of parking!

Recycled Crafts

If you are looking for activities that do not require going out, you might want to check out the various autumn or Halloween crafts that can be done with various items around your home. You can make spiders out of egg cartons – like we did last year – or do leave painting by collecting some autumn leaves! There are tons of different crafts for this time of year – from toilet roll eyes to put in a bush at your home to glass lanterns using leftover jam jars. Depending on what you already have in your craft bin, you can probably find some crafts to fill up your evening.

Watch Something Spooky

Prestige Hamper

There are plenty of lists out there that showcase the best horror movies or TV shows that are avaliable on whatever streaming platform you have access too. I often stick to TV shows during this time of year, instead of movies, and spend time looking at spooky shows instead of horror – I even created a list last year of the best TV series of Autumn on Netflix. Spending the night in, at home, enjoying some spooky shows is a great way to feel like the season without any of the cost associated with going out. You can even dig out your favorite hot chocolate or create a pumpkin spice latte at home, and enjoy it, cozy up next to your TV screen.

Do some Pumpkin Cooking

Everyone has to eat right? During October, we often start adding pumpkin puree into everything. You can decide if you want to purchase a cooking pumpkin and create your own puree or purchase a can, but adding pumpkin into the things you are cooking at home is always a fun experience. There are lots of simple recipes, that require only a few ingredients, but can be really fun. Pumpkin Pancakes are one of my favorites – and they don’t even take that long to eat. You can also make some quick pizza do, and start creating mummy versions of everything – meat balls, calzonies, hot dogs, pies anything you can think of really can become a mummy.

Oh my gosh, our local pumpkin patch had traffic stopped for hours the other day, I’m not attempting that one. But we have done some crafts, watched movies, and made pumpkin foods.

There are so many great things to do this time of year. I love it. We’ll be hitting up a pumpkin patch this weekend (and probably a corn maze too). 🙂
