A Day Out at Clip n’ Climb Chelsea

Clip n' Climb

*AD – this experience was gifted to our household for this post. All opinions, as always, are our own.

Rock climbing is something that, as a kid, I use to do regularly through school. My school had a rock wall and part of Gym Class required you to go on the wall every few months. As an adult, I must say, that I have not really gone out climbing in a long time. Dann and I, enticed in by bright colors and the want for a fun evening, went to Clip n’ Climb Chelsea to see how the adult, after work hours slots would be.

Clip n’ Climb Chelsea is basically a huge room full of colorful, fun rock walls that you can get clipped up too and climb up. Most of these rock walls are light up, bright, and really draw in the eye. Getting clipped in is as simple as getting one of the staff to clip you, and then you are free to climb the wall. Each of these walls have little challenges on the side, if you want a bit of extra fun, and a point system too. Some challenges require you to only use specific bits for your hands while others require you to climb the wall with your eyes shut. When you want to come down you can just lean back and fall down the wall, your rope will catch you.

The walls are the best part of Clip n’ Climb – and as they should be, since they are the main feature of this place. I really enjoyed the one with light up cubes on it, looking like a rainbow sky scraper, and the wall that twisted around – though I found it hard to climb that one! Some of the walls are free standing, allowing people to climb up either side. There are a lot of variety in these walls, from the types of ‘rocks’ from pipes, to walls that require you to use wooden sticks to get yourself in place, to walls that had beads and ropes on them, using those to pull yourself up. Another was a complete rope wall!

Along with these rock walls, there are a few premium attractions; the Drop Slide, the Stairway to Heaven and the Leap of Faith. For an additional £5 you can get a ticket that allows you to go on the drop slide twice or the stairway to heaven twice, or once on the leap of faith. The drop slide at Clip n’ Climb requires some serious upper body strength, as you suit up then hold onto a metal bar that pulls you up – vertically if you can hold on – before you let go, letting yourself drop and slide down. The stairway to heaven – which should be re-named Mario Pipes or Flappy Bird – allows you to jump from pipe to pipe, doing a bit of parkour, before you get to the top and jump off. This stairway is always pulling you into the center, because of the way the rope system works, adding a bit of challenge! The leap of faith is the only extra we didn’t end up trying – mainly as our arms were jelly by the end – but this required you to climb up a large pole, then jump off to grab a bar in the air, before dropping yourself below.

At the end of the hour and a bit evening, both Dann and I were exhausted. It’s quite a work out moving up and down those walls! I was feeling it for the next few days, if I am honest. I really enjoyed all of the different walls, the colorful, bright look of everything and just how much fun it was! With no kids around, it felt like a really fun gym where adults could do something a bit different. Everything felt really safe and it was a very fun night.

Clip n’ Climb also have toddler times, birthday party options, and a normal kids time during the day. I can see it being a fun place for younger children, teenagers and adults alike.
