We love a bit of mini-golf at our household, so when summer came, we set off to a new golf course. This time, we went to Rascal Bay Adventure Golf in Brentwood. I’m not sure if Rascal Bay really knows what theme it want’s to be, and instead seems to combine pirates with dinosaurs, throwing in a lava zone and adding… cannibalism? Again, we didn’t really see how all of these connected in a small 18 golf hole place, but we were happy to be somewhere new none-the-less.
In Rascal Bay, you start off in a pirate area, going through holes that are themed around these. One of the first awesome holes we came too was a cannon that made a loud noise if you got the ball through it, spitting it out on the other side. It was a very good start to our golf time and proved to be Kai’s over-all favourite hole! Soon, we hit a hole with a photo opp in the middle – a pot cooking humans, which ended the pirate area for a bit, as we moved onto the jungle area. All of a sudden, the course was pretty focused on animals, the snake being Jupiter’s favourite hole. It looks like a really, impossibly twisty snake, but if you put your ball in you will hear a click and hear the ball being moved before shooting out the tail.
From there, we played a few safari-seeming holes, with birds and monkeys hanging by them, until we ended up at an awesome volcano hole. After the valcano, we seemed to enter the lava area, where the ground was red and yellow. These holes were more simplistic then the pirate area seemed to be, but there were a few highlights – one area had holes by the goal hole, where if you got your ball into it, you ended up down the hill towards the start. Another had the ball go against a wave of metal, falling down which was quite fun to do.
Rascal Bay has a bunch of different places to take pictures, like this camel in the volcano area, which is a nice touch. Once we had gone through the volcano, we ended up going towards pre-historic age, seeing dinosaurs stuck in cages and holes that matched. But soon, it went back to pirates with treasure chests and water areas. There was one hole where you could get your ball into a little metal cage, where it would follow down a river and end up right by the hole. This was a favourite among Robin, who thought it was so cool that the ball went into water. Amelia loved the treasure chest towards the end, though it took a lot of skill to hit the ball into the chest, where it then went up an elevator and came out the top.
Though Rascal Bay is a bit confusing in what it is trying to be, many of the holes are super memorable and provide for a great variety when it comes to mini-golf. We quite enjoyed the park, especially the design of many of the holes. It’s worth mentioning that each hole has a board by it, which tells everyone the easiest and most challenging paths to take when doing the hole. This is particularly useful if you are interested in scores in the game, but we play for fun ourselves!
