As you may know, I do dye my hair, involving both bleach and dye. Despite all of this hair color, I do not shy away from swimming family holidays! There are a lot of people out there that will not go in chlorine-filled water when they’ve had their hair dyed, due to the effect it has on hair. On the other hand, I do feel like Robin, Amelia and Kai are only going to be kids for so long (with the older two already hitting mid-teens!) so I am going to go into the water whenever they do. Since we were going to Center Parcs once again, I grabbed a bottle of Aqua Guard to see how it faired.
Aqua Guard is a leave-in shampoo that stops chlorine damage before you actually get into the water. It’s goal is to prevent hair from going green and protect your hair, even if it has natural color. Last time we went to a water park for a week straight, spending several hours a day swimming, my hair ended up feeling horrible and going very, very green. I was hoping that Aqua Guard would help with that!
I put in a generous amount of the shampoo right before going into the pool, really rubbing it in. I do have thick hair, so felt like I needed a lot of this! I went on dry hair, though you can dampen your hair first. Then, I let the product sit for a few minutes before going into the main pool. After I was done swimming, when I was back at our accommodation, I then washed out all of this in the shower. It was very easy to wash out as well.
I must say, on times when we went straight from the pool to eating and night activities, before I was able to wash my hair, Aqua Guard did leave my hair feeling extremely soft and looking very fluffy! The smell is cherry, sort of sweet like candy, so it smells really nice to me. Kai also ended up using some of it, as he likes to take good care of his hair, and he liked it to, saying his hair was so soft despite swimming all day. It is worth mentioning this product is reef safe, animal cruelty free, and has no dyes or such on it. I feel like I’d add this to my swim bag for the future.
