My Chemical Romance at Wembley Stadium

We do love going out and doing various different things! I have not been to a stadium gig, so when I heard My Chemical Romance was playing, I figured I knew enough of their music to go along. At first, I invited Dann, but he said he wasn’t a big enough fan really. Kai overheard this conversation and said he was, and that he wanted to go. So there was two of us. When talking about possibly going, Amelia said ‘I like live music’ and after a bit of talking, we decided that she would go even though it’s not her favorite type of music.

At that point, Dann was feeling fomo and wanted to go as well. We decided that Robin was a bit too young, so arranged a sleepover, and waited for My Chemical Romance to come to Wembley Stadium. I actually went straight there from the airport after being in New York City, which was a wild ride. We went on the Friday, which had Joan Jett opening. It was lovely hearing her play and enjoying a lot of the pre-show. We grabbed some chicken tenders and fries, along with a bunch of drinks. Our seats were seated, not in the standing area, due to recommendations about Amelia’s age from the venue, but we did have some great seats with a clear view of the stage and screens. We were mid-front!

For those of you unfamiliar with My Chemical Romance, this Black Parade tour was more than just a bunch of music. There is a lot of lore as this tour, along with the performances day to day, are following a sort of play. My Chemical Romance start off on stage as The Black Parade, which has died and disappeared many years ago. They are now brought back to a prison where they are preforming for the Grand Immortal Dictator, who leads the country of Draag. It’s a sort of big act, with tons of their songs, that depicts a lot of themes of dictatorship and politics, really. We all even get to vote to murder four people on trial, with fireworks. It’s just such good stage presence.

Kai and I were clearly the biggest fans of My Chemical Romance and were singing along to all of the songs, where as Amelia and Dann were just enjoying it. The majority of the show was as The Black Parade, with lots of interesting moments including a clown murder, fireworks, and a lot of actual fire (the entire stage was covered in fire at one point, with a guy caught on fire running across the stage). Then, My Chemical Romance announced themselves after a short break and took the smaller, middle stage to preform some more of their classic songs. It was interesting for them to re-introduce themselves and start playing.

I feel that My Chemical Romance put on such a good show. There was moments of interest, lots of curiosity, and tons of wonderful music. It was like watching a play while also listening to music that I remember from my teenage years. Everything just was so well done. It was amazing how many people were singing together. The vibes were fantastic – as was all of the fireworks and the like. It was so wonderful to be there. When all was said and done, Kai, Amelia, Dann and I all got matching shirts, with Kai getting an extra shirt as he liked the design of that one as well (they were such good quality!), before we made the journey home.
