Dann and I love going to food markets, and one of our favorites is Borough Market! Though we do not get there often enough, when we go, we always have a fantastic time. Borough Market has a bunch of street food stands, as well as stands that sell a number of artisanal products. We’ve previously gone there to purchase cheese, smoked meats, and chutneys for fantastic charcuterie boards! It’s also just a fun location to explore, though on the day we went, it was very busy. Our goal was to get a few dishes to eat for a late lunch / early dinner.
Spicy Beef Rendang
One thing I always like doing at food markets is looking for someone that has a dish that looks delicious. Then, ask them if it’s good and where to get it from. The first dish I saw someone enjoying was this Spicy Beef Rendang, and they said it was “really the best” so of course we got some. The rice bowl has pull-apart-tender chunks of beef, in a really lovely, beefy sauce. We added chili to the top, adding spice. The cucumbers were refreshing and slightly pickled. Dann had pineapple in his (no idea why I didn’t have any in mine!!) and this pineapple was a refreshing and sweet touch to it all. It’s absolutely the best savory thing I have had so far at Borough Market.
A Bunch of Tacos and Frozen Margaritas
We then went on to get a bunch of tacos! Dann got the specality trio to try, which included a fish taco that he said was crispy and good, along with a beef two way tacos, which I had a bite of. The beef two ways was really fun, one of the beefs were tender and the other was almost like pork scratching – very crunchy! It’s a big savory meal. The other taco he got was pork and pineapple, and again that pineapple salsa was just hitting today! I got a chorizo taco as well, which was as expected and pretty good. We both got frozen margaritas, which were salty and cold.
Black Forest and Creme Brulee Eclairs
When I saw these Eclairs when I came into the market, I knew we had to have them at the end of our meal! I really had my eye on the creme brulee eclair, which as it turns out, is a special for the cart! This eclair was one of the top ones I have ever had. It was packed with cream filling, and the topping tasted like flan! Dann’s black forest eclair was intensely chocolate with some big cherries in it. It was very good though a bit overwhelming.
We had a wonderful time at Borough Market and will be back again soon! There is just so many good foods and so much to do in the area, it’s well worth a visit when visiting London.
You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
Those creme brulee eclairs look absolutely amazing. The whole market has a fantastic vibe.
Oh wow it looks like it was a really fun day! Thanks for reviewing it too!
There’s so much to eat & see at Borough Market. I’d like to try the Spicy Beef Rendang right now.
