Butlin’s Skegness Easter Feat The Masked Singer

Our family outside the Butlin's Skegness sign

We are a big adventure family and love going on holidays and days out. As Kai and Amelia get older, its much easier to plan a holiday away then it is to find a bunch of events that work well for a 7 year old but also a 12 year old and 14 year old. Last Easter break, we went to Butlin’s Minehead, so this Easter Robin asked so many times to go back to Butlin’s – and we picked Skegness for a weekend away.

Butlin’s are very similar between areas, however Skegness has better signal and the “upgrade” to better (usable) wifi is actually free for everyone, instead of being charged per day. We rented an apartment with a small kitchen, to make our own lunches in, and got the premium dining plan so that we could do breakfast and dinner buffet, with the different made to order stations. This way of eating, we find, allows us to have big meals twice a day, and a smaller, snacky lunch, which is more manageable with all of the activities.

Day 1 – Arriving at Butlin’s Skegness

We arrived at Butlin’s quite late the first day, just getting there in time for our buffet dinner. Everyone was very hungry, so we went to the buffet before we even checked out our accommodation. It was German night at the buffet, so there were sausages, cabbage, pretzels and the like on the special area stand, as well as the standard grill with two made to order options (one chicken related, one beef), the made to order pasta bar, the carvery, and the pizza area, along with the salads. We really had a lot of food, trying out everything. The carvery actually changed each night, and there was also a section with some woks that had stir-fry out each day too. After we were stuffed, we went to check in. Our apartment was nice, up some stairs, right by a duck pond which Robin found to be fantastic. After we had unpacked all of our stuff and claimed our rooms, we went for a big explore.

Butlin’s Skegness had a lot of light up parts of the place at night; a long tunnel to the fair ground, a rainbow bridge, and a giant light up Butlin’s sign! We also explored the big main tent and had a look at the arcade, to prepare ourselves for the next day. Now, Amelia is big into getting her rest and tends to have a bad time if she hasn’t slept, so we then went back to our apartment and went right to bed for a busy day the next day.

Day 2 – Lasertag, Arcades, Swimming and more.

On the second day of our Butlin’s adventure, we woke up pumped to go to the buffet and have breakfast. This was the breakfast buffet, which doesn’t change each day. There is everything for a full English, an omelette bar, crepe bar, pancake area, oatmeal, cereal, tons of fruit… just a lot of options. Right after breakfast we headed to the pool, which is a make it or break it activity for our family. We spent a lot of time swimming and at swimming pools – so were slightly disappointed that the main pool area was closed, meaning about 1/4th of the swimming area was open, and there was a limited amount of people who could actually go in. We did make it in though, and actually really enjoyed it! They had this big rapid river, which never has a line and has people floating along and sliding down mini, slightly intense water slides, as they move around. We really loved this and everyone agreed it was far better than a main pool. I spent a lot of time with Amelia and Robin, where as Kai and Dann dipped in with us and then went off to do massive water slides that they really enjoyed.

After swimming, we checked out the arcade, which had plenty of different machines to explore. They were generous on their tickets and the girls even won some prizes out of the penny machines. Kai played a lot of action-y games with Dann, like riding different vehicles. He also played a new demolition game we had not seen before, which gave out tons of tickets! Butlin’s Skegness did have a lot of children’s interactive shows going on through the day, which we saw when going from place to place, but as two of our kids are too old for them, we packed our day with activities. We did a little lunch at home, then had booked up some laser tag for the afternoon. The laser tag arena actually had everyone wearing head things instead of a vest, which was very unique! Adults could sit on the side and see into the arena, but all of us wanted to play so we did 3 rounds, two on teams and one an all out war. The arena was a good size, glowing, and everyone had fun with this activity, especially Kai who got really into it! After laser tag we went for our buffet dinner, then another round of swimming!

We did book in our first evening show, as these are better suited for all of the ages. This was the Masked Singer – which is the like main performance that we attend at Butlin’s! The Butlin’s Masked Singer is exclusive to the resort, and is a show that cannot be talked about once you have gone. We really enjoyed the three singers that we saw – the costumes were fantastic as well. Robin and I got a picture with Rubbish at the end, and she went to the kids dancing area and was able to get really close to another singer, which was fun! The show ended a bit late and everyone was tired, so we then went to bed.

Day 3 – Arts, Parks and Performances

Day three was another fully, packed day. We did the classic start which was breakfast buffet, and then we went to the Skypark, which is an outdoor park that Robin had excited for ever since seeing the sign on the first night. This park is massive, with large towers that have slides on them. Getting up to the slides, you will be climbing a bunch of ropes! There are a ton of parkour areas, swings, places to climb, and even a video-game style totem pole thing where you are told which poles to tap and when. This park was so cool that even Kai really enjoyed it and talked about going back. It was also right next to pottery painting, which we had booked up. Pottery painting at Butlin’s isn’t one of the ones where you put them in a kelm, but instead you just paint some different items. We all picked upgraded items, with Kai getting a skull and our girls getting ice cream cone trinket jars. Everyone had a fun time painting and this activity ended up taking an hour for us! We headed back to our apartment for lunch, and stopped by the treat shop to grab some sweets as we kept passing by it! When passing by the ice skating area, we saw there was no queue, so went in there for a little half hour skate before getting lunch sorted.

The ice skating place is small, and there are limited penguins for use, which is nice. The music was good and as everyone has ice skated before, it wasn’t too hard for us all to get into it. After lunch, we went swimming of course, and then went to the Circus! We had not booked the circus, so were just hoping for seats there and were lucky enough to get in. The circus show was very good, about an hour long, with a few new twists on classic circus performances. The strong man was new to us, and it was fun seeing a lot of stuff we had seen before like the guy running on the wheel! After the circus, we went to get some dinner and then went back to the Skypark while we waited for our next show. This was Festival Rock, a rock concert with a lot of dancing. It was Kai’s favorite show of the event, with a lot of good music. At the end they threw out big balloons and everyone chased them. Robin of course went to the front of the stage and did a lot of dancing – so we were pretty tired by the end of that show and grabbed some ice cream before heading to bed.

Day 4 – Swimming and Parks

On our last day, we woke up and had buffet breakfast before packing away our apartment and checking out. Check out is right at 10am, so once we had that sorted, we went to go swimming one last time. We got a photographer to take our photo and then got the photo package so we could have any photos taken by any photographers during our stage – I do wish I got more photos taken by them, as it’s so worth the price with the package (which comes with unlimited pictures). After our swim, we went to the Skypark one more time, and once our kids were ready to say goodbye to Butlin’s Skegness, we ventured on our 3 hour journey home in time for Kai’s Monday night clubs. We all decided that Skegness was our favourite Butlin’s, and vowed to come back next year!

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
