Carving and Painting Pumpkins this October

One of my favorite things in the whole wide world is pumpkin carving. I loved carving pumpkins as a kid, and I really love carving them now with the little ones that I live with. Carving pumpkins is always a super fun experience, especially as the children get older and want more complex designs. We got our pumpkins from Cammas Hall, where the kids got to pick out whatever pumpkin they wanted. Amelia ended up with the largest, which was white, Kai had a very classic looking pumpkin, and Robin had a slightly smaller one. Dann and I shared a red pumpkin that was quite flat, almost as if it had been squished down, which is what we liked about it.

Moist Pumpkin Bread with pecan streusel

Autumn means pumpkin spice everything and after a few years of baking our own breads, I felt like pumpkin spiced bread would probably a fun thing to do this time of year. You see, read made with pumpkin is so moist, flavorful, and such a good time. I love having something that is crunchy on top of such soft, moist breads like this – so I made some pecan streusel to bake on top, but you can leave that out and just create the bread itself. The crunchy, nutty top is really good though, so if it’s something you might like, you should try!

When the autumn air comes around, the leaves change color, and it’s like we are in a whole new chapter of the year. I love autumn, it’s my favorite time of year, and I quite enjoy doing all sorts of fall activities and enjoying the favorites that happen this time of year – from spooky smelling candles to pumpkin spice everything, but often not everyone has the budget to go out every night and enjoy a latte each day! In our home, we do a mix of activities to keep busy, especially when it comes to specific times of year where there is so much on.
