Keeping kids entertained with K’nex

[Ad- gifted product] There is a point when children get to a bit of an odd age – between not quite a kid and not quite a teenager, where it seems like their hobbies and interests are quite narrow. Kai, as an 11 year old, has hit this age – he mainly wants to play video games and… well, that’s about it. He doesn’t have much interest in toys and games, but there are a handful designed for his age range that really fill in the times when he needs a break from the screen. One of these toys are K’nex.

K’nex generally are a type of building toy that is slightly more complex then Lego and allows you to build more than just landscapes – you can build entire toys out of them, as parts bend and shape. Some K’nex kits come with bigger main pieces, that can really change and shape what you are creating. They provide for a lot of versatility, especially in their range for older children. We actually recently went to a fair after playing with our K’nex and one of the stands had created a bunch of moving models with motors in them, all out of K’nex. Clearly, they are a pretty fun toy. We got our hands on two different sets!

My Squishy Little Dumplings – Squishy and Fun | Toy Review

[Ad- gifted product] Just the name – My Squishy Little Dumplings – sounds super fun, so we were all excited to get our hands onto a little dumpling of our own. Robin and Amelia kept saying this was an onion, at first, so we had to completely explain what dumplings are, despite them all trying dumplings before. These toys are little electronic dolls, which work like blind dolls, only showing their dumpling head at first.

Lite Brite Classic is back along with the Lite Brite Mini | Review

[Ad- gifted product] Much like Moon Shoes, I remember having a Lite Brite in my household. My sister and I would share it, often destroying each other’s perfectly crafted light art to make something new, plugging in the little pegs ourselves and watching it light up. In my head, they were bulkier, and much more of a challenge when it came to putting in the little pegs, but seems to be related to me being much smaller and having tiny fingers! I was pretty excited to introduce Amelia and Robin to Lite Brite as we felt they’d like it best. And, in the words of Robin, the Lite Brite has a baby!

Moon Shoes – a throwback toy | Review

[Ad- gifted product] I remember my first pair of Moon Shoes, jumping around my parent’s house, on their wooden floor, feeling like I was an astronaut, somehow, within my own home. Moon Shoes were these toys that you basically strapped your feet into, allowing you to bounce around on mini-trampolines. There isn’t a huge upkeep as there would be with a large trampoline, but they bring just as much fun as having one! Moon Shoes came out, originally, around the 1950s as an effort from Nickelodeon to create toys – and were made of metal. When I was a child, they were plastic and much like Moon Shoes are now.

When it comes to putting together your shoes, they do come with the outer shoe, platform for your feet and the straps all separated – and it is effort to put them together. I didn’t realize my dad had done the stretching! There are a bunch of replacement bands, so if your bands start to wear out, you can just switch them out for a new set, and keep on jumping! Once our shoes were put together, the kids were pretty interested in something described as a trampoline and was also space themed. Moon Shoes are recommended for ages 7 and up, and the weight limit on Moon Shoes is 130lbs or 58.9 kg, so they are not meant for most adults. We went out back to try the shoes out on the grass, so if there were any learning curve falls, they would be on softer ground.

Blume Doll – Surprise Box Doll | Review

[Ad- gifted product] When it comes to surprise boxes, they just seem to be apart of children’s toys now. From aliens that you explode to dolls that grow from pots, you can find them everywhere. Robin got two Blume Dolls to try out, one in the Sun series and the other in a Heart series. There are a bunch of different dolls, but they all follow the same concept when it comes to growing them out of their pot and their own surprises.
