[Ad- gifted experience] Circus Cortex comes to our local town once a year, and they always put on a fantastic show! Each year, we find that it is so different from the last; new acts, new costumes, new music… it’s such a refreshing, fun show! We all headed to the Friday viewing, extremely excited to see what this year had in store for us. This year it was called the Circus Cortex BizZzar.
At the start, all of the team came out dancing and singing, then the first of many ribbon dancers came out, whipping and dancing about in the sky! This was absolutely stunning – from the twists to the falls and turns – it just was something that feels super captivating and unique each time that I see it. Several members of the cast were dancing around and playing instruments as this happened, bringing a lot of backing to the show.
After that, we saw the classic man trying to woo a girl by whipping his giant lasso. It’s one that I have seen from Circus Cortex, but it’s a classic for a reason. I find it to be such a funny time! The man whips some flowers, then starts going at glasses, straws, newspaper, etc. It’s a slow build, around a date where he dances with another women. A lot of this show were almost themed around these different micro-stories, giving the characters more depth to them.
The clown this year, which is always Robin’s favorite part, had a lot of audience participation! There were two separate acts that had audience members participating in the antics! Everyone get sprayed with water as well, as the clown and one of the actors ran around the entire tent. It was very fun and very much distracted people from the stage changing around.
There were also a few different ribbon dancers in Circus Cortex BizZzar, after the first one. There was a set of three that came out who were all diving down towards the ground after dancing in the air, stopping right before the floor. There was a couple that danced together, playing out a love story while in the sky, swinging around and holding each other, from just one point in the sky. It was all very impressive.
Kai’s favorite bit of Circus Cortex BizZzar was the man with the chairs. This guy kept stacking up chairs higher and higher – they started to sway – and he balanced on them on one hand. There was also a strong man that held poles on his shoulders, which people climbed up and did acrobats on. It was extremely talented and took a lot of work. One final new thing, which Amelia thought was very cool, was the people that walked up a ladder. This ladder trick had people balancing on the head of another person, who then went up and down a ladder. It looked extremely challenging and was something so new!
Circus Cortex BizZzar is such a fantastic show – everyone feels extremely talented as well! They do sell caramel popcorn, cotton candy and have a full bar, so we did grab some drinks and snacks at the halfway point. They do also sell the light up toys and – this year – some hoodies with their design on it.
