Easter is quickly approaching and, as an American, I love celebrating holidays to the full extent. Where I lived, we never had these huge eggs that seem present everywhere in England – so I was interested in them. When I first got one, I was very surprised it was just a hollow egg, which made me want to fill it with something. This year, we got the chance to fill them all with different flavors and items! It was a really fun idea and you can fill yours with anything you want too to make your own Easter Egg Dessert.
We did, at first, try to temper chocolate and make our own eggs, but the molds we got weren’t the best, which caused some problems. In the end, we purchased some smaller eggs and cut them in half to fill them!
Filled Easter Egg Dessert
Ingredients
- 1 Medium Sized Chocolate Egg
- 1 Pre-Cooked Cake unfrosted
- 1 Tub of Frosting
Toppings, but you can use anything
- Pretzels
- Cookies Crumbled
- Freeze Dried Fruit
- Sprinkles
- Mini-Chocolate Eggs
- Mini-Chocolate Bunnies
- Nuts
Instructions
- Cut your chocolate egg in half. This is easier done when the egg is cold, along the seem of the egg
- Fill your egg half with crumbled bits of cake.
- Top the cake with frosting
- Add on the toppings you'd like to have! You can put anything on top of these eggs, really – it's like a really fancy cake!
This recipe for an Easter Egg Dessert is really quite easy and you can customise the top of your egg with anything, really. It’s important to bulk your egg out with cake and a bit of frosting to hold things together. Then, once everyone is done filling their halves, it’s fun to smash them down and start eating! We had all of our ingredients in little bowls and on plates so that everyone could grab what they wanted and put as much as they’d like on their egg before eating it. I found that having a mix of chocolate, salty items like pretzels, crunchy items like nuts or cookies, and some refreshing items like dried fruit (which we got from the Rotten Fruit Box) made for a very tasty treat. It’s fun to do with the whole family and something we will be doing again next year! Hopefully, by then, we can create our own eggs to go the extra mile.
