Tamagotchis have lasted so long – I had one as a kid, Robin and Amelia each had their own. There is something fun about carrying around a little pet that you take care of and raise! GigaPets Cryptids is a new type of Tamagotchi, where you can find and raise mythical creatures like the loch ness monster (Nessie), Bigfoot and Mothman – who I have never heard of myself!

These pets are surprisingly tame when you find them, hidden among the trees. You are able to actually get them as a baby, then grow them to become a full sized monster! Robin was very excited to start her GigaPets Cryptids adventure, and got a baby version of Bigfoot who looked a lot like an apple-blob to her, so she spent some time trying to guess who it was! Over time, you can get all three pets to take care of, swapping between them to play and meet their needs.

Bigfoot’s favorite game to do within the GigaPets device is actually bowling, which is an activity that Robin did recently too. This mini-game was primarily animation, but she very much enjoyed it. Each of the different pets have different mini-games that they enjoy doing, and you can unlock more when you get more pets. Having bowling at the first pet was quite fun for Robin. Mothman is able to save falling cars in their mini-game, which is equally as fun.

Another really good feature of the GigPets Cryptids are that these pets do not die. Robin has previously expressed she was really sad when her digital pets pass away, however for these mythical creatures, they instead run away and hide, allowing you to find them again and meet their needs once again, so that they are happy and playful. It’s a very interesting take on other digital pets, and one that I am sure will find it’s way on many of our family’s adventures.

These are so fun! Would be the perfect gift for my niece – she wants a pet but my sister won’t get her one – this could be a great alternative.

Oh these remind me of Tamagotchi’s! Love that there’s something comparable for kids today – those were always the best!
