If you have been reading our blog, you will know we are a fan of Legoland. This year was actually the year of amusement parks, where we went to as many amusement parks as we could in the year. As Legoland is our most local amusement park, we wanted to go to the Halloween event, Bonfire Night event and Christmas event, to experience the park in a bunch of different ways. We were able to check out Legoland at Christmas and had a pretty fun time!
Legoland at Christmas is during a bit of grey and rainy season in England, so we ended up going on a day that was a bit rainy. With that said, we still had an amazing time, but I did feel that the event at Christmas did not live up to Halloween or Bonfire Night at the park. This event did not have a movie in their cinema, and a large bit of the park was actually closed. There are two special outdoor events, but neither of which were on the day we ended up going, due to the weather being rainy.
We did end up going to The Brick to build with Lego, which is always a fun, indoor experience. Everyone was challenged to create holiday themed items, that could be put on a Christmas tree or on a table if it was too big to fit. Robin ended up making a Christmas Train, Amelia made a tree with a lovely angle, and Kai made Santa’s hat. When you handed in your creation, you got a little train set to take home! Amelia and Robin also wrote letters to Santa, thanking him for thinking of them this holiday season. This area was also meant to have Pop Badges, but did not have any, as they had run out of the Pop badges for Christmas time on the first week of opening this event. Outside the Brick, there was a hot chocolate hut, much like you see at Christmas Markets. One other area of the park also had a sauces hut similarly.
There were tons of different decorations all around the park, with a word challenge where you needed to find a bunch of letters to spell out a holiday word (by finding Christmas puddings), four elves that all look similar that you can spot, and a bunch of Christmas trees all lit up! Cut outs were here and there too. We had a great time exploring Mini-Land, which has a bunch of replications of the real world. There are a few different details that have been added to create more of a Christmas feel, primarily in the England part of the map, with Covent Garden receiving a make over, lots of snow angles around, and many characters with scarves.
Santa was traveling around Legoland at Christmas, with a bunch of helpers dancing around in front of him. This was really magical to see, especially as the sleigh moves across the park. We enjoyed waving and seeing Santa as he moved towards his village. For an additional fee, you can personally meet Santa, in his magical forest, but as we had already met Santa we did not grab a ticket. There was also a Christmas booth that had a passport for the holiday season, some extra Pop badges from last year (if you ask for them!) and some maps. Some rides were closed due to the weather, but many of them were open as usual, and there is plenty of indoor rides to keep you out of the rain! Personally, I do wish this was up to the standard that Halloween was, with special areas and a movie, but it was still fun to see the place all decked out for Christmas.
You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
OMG! This place looks like SO much fun! It’s so hard to find a place both adults and kids would love equally that doesn’t have a boat load of roller coasters and such. And the fact it’s does Christmas makes it even better! Thank you for sharing this experience with us!
Legoland is a classic!
Legoland will never get old! Always a fun time and so much to see and explore. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
I have heard about Legoland, and it sounds like a great place. Such a pity it’s so far away
We have been at Christmas time too. It’s awesome to go!
