Becoming a Spy with the Spy Ninjas New Recruit Mission Kit

*AD – the item in this review was gifted to our household for this post. All opinions, as always, are our own.

Recently, we went to a spy mission escape room with the kids, who all really enjoyed it. So much so, that Kai has been talking about being a spy for the better half of the week. So, we got our hands on the Spy Ninjas New Recruit Mission Kit – which has a bunch of activities for those interested in being a spy! This kit came with loads of things including three main tools; a decoder, an invisible ink pen, and a listening device, as well as three activity booklets, an achievement award, an ID Card for the spy (which has Morse code decoder on the back), a red card used for spying hidden messages, a notebook for clues, and an envelope that says TOP SECRET.

Diving right into it, the first thing Kai wanted to do was check out all his new gadgets from the Spy Ninjas New Recruit Mission Kit. The invisible pen is something he has had before, from science kits, so he was quick to play around with it. The decoder was interesting to him, but he had no idea how to use it. When it came to the listening device, we hit a bit of a road block. The device seems to be too big (even at it’s adjusted setting) to fit nicely in his ear or in my ear. It looks like the listening thing is just too solid (not soft like earbuds, but meant to go in your ear) and it just doesn’t make sense to us. He liked that it had a microphone, but quickly gave up as he couldn’t really figure out how to comfortably wear it.

Thankfully, he quickly moved onto the activity books and looked to solve mysteries and become a spy! The activity books each focus on a different thing; one on real life ways to be a spy, one on using the red card and your knowledge to be a spy, and another on using the decoder ring to be a spy. He started with the book using the red card, quickly solving riddles, using the card to find hidden pictures, and using maps. He was very excited and able to do all of this really on his own, apart from some word unscrambling. He had completed the book in about 30 minutes, and moved onto the decoder for a bit.

The decoder in the Spy Ninjas New Recruit Mission Kit was more tricky for him, as he often forgot to set it to the picture he needed to solve. Once he had that down, he was quickly figuring out what hackers were doing, their dislikes, and their likes. He also had a thumb through the real life tips of becoming a spy, and then told them directly to his sister, so I guess they can keep an eye out for spys! Kai really enjoyed the Spy Ninjas New Recruit Mission Kit and it did hold his attention for far longer than I figured it would in one sitting, which was a real positive for us! He has learned a lot of spy things from his books, and the certificate was a nice touch too.
