Breakfast at The Silo Restaurant and Gift Shop

The Silo Restaurant and Gift Shop is a pretty interesting place to eat at in Upstate New York. My cousins wanted to go here, as one of them really loves the eggs benedict crab cakes, and wanted to show me the place. We went with my dad for a breakfast and then a bit of an explore around the gift shop aspect of The Silo. But first, let’s get into the food.

Cider Donut French Toast

In this area of New York, Cider Donuts (made with apple cider) are extremely popular. I got the Cider Donut French Toast, which was three cider donuts, dipped in French Toast batter, then pan-fired. It came with maple syrup and icing sugar, which was very sweet and delicious. There were far too many donuts for me to eat, I could have just done with one, but it was good. I also got a side of home fries which weren’t the best I have had during my stay but were good. I wish they were seasoned more and crispier!

Eggs Benedict Crab Cakes and Country Fried Steak with Gravy

One of my cousins got the Eggs Benedict Crab Cakes at The Silo, as he had been raving about it! These eggs were perfectly cooked, with a good amount of sauce on them. The crab cakes clearly were made with fresh crab and tasted good – not too much breading at all – though I am not a huge crab fan. This dish came with home fries as well. My other cousin got the country fried steak with gravy, which was very interesting! This came with eggs, home fires, toast, and of course the country fried steak with gravy. That’s a sort of breaded bit of meat. It was crunchy and well seasoned!

Simple Breakfast

My dad got a simple build your own breakfast, which was an egg of your choice (he went with scrambled), home fries, toast, and sausage patties. He felt his plate was far to small for his meal (and it was smaller than the rest of ours!) so things were cramped. It was a very simple breakfast, but it did the job.

The Silo Gift Shop

The Silo is not just a restaurant, but also a gift shop of local products. There are tons of samples all throughout the shop from different sauces to dips to cider donuts themselves. It’s quite fun walking around! They have a penny candy shop within it, where I got a bunch of little candies, and there are things from build your own scents to toys to Christmas decorations.

Those donuts sound tasty but I definitely couldn’t have eaten the whole portion either. The gravy on things like country fried steaks always throws me as it’s not gravy how I know it x
