Hibachi at Daifuku in Queensbury New York

I do feel that a lot of my time in Upstate New York will include going out to places to eat. I very much enjoy eating out and there are tons of new places to eat at! Dann and I really wanted to go to hibachi, so we mentioned it to my sister when we were talking about plans, and she recommended a few places, including Daifuku! Daifuku is a sushi and hibachi restaurant (with a good ramen, according to my sister), so we were excited to go. She took Dann and I, along with her partner, to have a dinner out.

A Day Out at Pember Library & Natural History Museum

I went off to visit family in Upstate New York and as a result started going out to all the little places hidden in the small, mountain-side towns nearby. One of the museums I remember going to as a very small child is the Pember Library and Natural History Museum – located right in the middle of the town my grandmother lives in. This museum is above a decent sized library, which is open, for free, to the public. The library itself is on a donation if you want basis, with a large collection of taxidermy animals, many of which you’d never see in this small town.

A Day Out at the Slate Valley Museum

When it comes to local museums, there are a few in the town my grandparents live in. When I was a kid, I never took the time to really explore them or learn much when it came to being outside of school. Now that I am older, and appreciate the museums that I go too, I wanted to go to the Slate Valley Museum right in the middle of the town. There are tons of signs around, which declare Granville as the slate capitol of the world, so I did want to know exactly what made this small town a popular place when it come to an export as simple as slate.

A Day Out at Saratoga Race Course

While visiting my family, one of the things we ended up going out and doing is betting on some horses at the local race course. Saratoga Race Course is a track I do remember going to as a child, but had no idea Taid, my grandfather, went every single year, because he was taken by his father to see the horses race. With very little experience at race courses, my sister and I were curious, and my dad actually didn’t know the betting system at all, so it was an interesting and time.

A Day Out at Hick’s Orchard

Hick’s Orchard is a place I actually worked at, as a kid. I feel like everyone in the area has worked at Hick’s at one point or another. It’s one of those pick your own places, with a nice sized farm shop, a hard cider taste room and more all in one space. When I worked at Hick’s, I was always there for apple season – that’s when there is a lot going on as they are best known for their apples, really. But, this time of year, my sister wanted to go blueberry picking – and because I was in town, I figured I would go along too!
