I got a new lens for my camera while in America, as I really do love taking pictures and I have had a lot of free-time when it comes to my day to day in America. After getting the lens and spending a few days tinkering around with it, my cousin had suggested going to the Alfred Z. Solomon Grassland Bird Trail, which is near where he works. So, we went along one extremely sunny day hoping to catch some birds!

This might just be a post to show off all of the stunning bird photos I got on my first real outing using this new lens. The Alfred Z. Solomon Grassland Bird Trail is a large, open greenspace that is meant for bird watchers to walk and explore. At the top of the sort of hill, there are some signs about the grasslands and the birds you could find there, along with a cool little shoe cleaner, that you can use in case your clothing gets muddy. There is also a lookout box at the top and some free-to-use giant binoculars. Some volunteers were actually there when we arrived and explained there was a bit of a bird hunt set up, for an event they are doing at the weekend, and said we could participate – it’s nice to see that they are doing all sorts of events.

The walk itself is significant – a little over 2 miles – which is quite a lovely walk. It starts off downhill, with a few benches spread out, before moving around a massive grassland that’s got a big fence so that people cannot walk on the bird’s land. The trail has several different forks, that sort of loop back on each other, crossing bridges and walking around a big pond full of different birds. Some of the further parts, like the pond, have less benches, but there is still plenty if you need a rest.

The Alfred Z. Solomon Grassland Bird Trail is a very well maintained grasslands – it’s clear that it’s a home for the birds that live there. I quite liked the smaller trees that where nearby benches, so you could get a good view of the birds that stopped there.
You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
