Dann and I often try to get along to a lavender field, with Hitchin Lavender Field being one of our favorites, but we wanted to check out a new one this year. The Secret Lavender Garden at Mayfield had a lovely Golden Hour ticket and as we’ve been quite busy during the day, Dann and I wanted to make an evening out of it.
The Secret Lavender Garden at Mayfield is quite easy to get to, with it’s own dedicated parking right on site. You’ll go through a shop first, which is currently selling loads of lavender-themed items that are made locally, along with a lot of Mayfield’s own items. It’s a lovely farm shop type place. They also serve breakfast in their cafe during the mornings, with drinks for sale during the times that we went. When we first arrived and checked in, we also got a little map which shows some key points withint he lavender garden, but it’s not really needed as this isn’t a huge or hard to spot place.
We took a bit of a walk around the Secret Lavender Garden at Mayfield to see everything and make a plan, where we found that the various sections all had their own little names, primarily around famous locations. This was very adorable and made it easy to understand the different areas that had different types of lavender growing on them. Some of the lavender, despite the dry spell we have been having in England, was SO lush – it was lovely. Dann and I walked up to the lookout, which was a giant owl’s head, and saw a big view of the whole field!
From there, we walked towards the Secret Lavender Garden door, which was so adorable and made a great backdrop to photos. Beyond this, there was a lavender stage, where Mayfield sometimes has live music on the weekends, along with more rows of beautiful lavender. There is also a more secluded area that’s ideal for those looking to prepose and then take some photos afterwards, which is very love themed.
Dann and I spent a lot of time walking around The Secret Lavender Garden at Mayfield, taking pictures of the bumble bees that were all around. There were some beehives as well, which made sense with the honey that they were selling inside the shop. We did stop at the cafe and get some lavender shortbread along with some lavender lemonade – both were delicious, with a nice amount of lavender which you could taste without it being overwhelming. It was extremely lovely to watch the sunset from inside a lavender field with my love.
