A Day Out at Circus Fantasia

My eldest, Kai, saw the colourful posters around town and started asking about visiting the circus. Circus Fantasia, a traveling circus on it’s 8th year of show, was in our area for the week, with their new 2020 program. Jupiter had never been to a circus before, and when I had gone as a child, it was much too loud for my ears and I had a terrible time. Despite this, as Kai wanted to go, we set out to grab tickets up and spend the evening at Circus Fantasia.

At the end of it all, we were very happy that we ended up going! Tickets did not assign seats, but the tent is not too big, allowing everyone to see the action (and we did get really good seats as we arrived a bit early). Circus Fantasia has a bunch of different acts from a large cast of people, but first we all got treats and drinks. There were clowns walking around selling little toys that light up or spinning plates, but we were here for the show. First, a clown did a few tricks, and then some beautifully dressed women in blue feathers came out, dancing around the stage. There was a live band preforming all of the sound effects and songs, which is really impressive.

A man, juggling knives, fire, and more, rode a motorbike around the ring, moving an acrobat around the stage, who hung from her teeth, twisted her body around, and looked absolutely elegant. What a wonderful start. From there, the clown came back out again with another short bit of performance, as the stage was changed behind him. A hula-hooper came out, playing around with lighting up hoops and becoming a giant slinky. Her routine was eye-catching, especially with the glow from the hoops. The clown came back out and then did a small bit with a too-big hula-hoop, as well as a bunch of comedy around falling.

Next up was a western-themed look, as a cowboy whipped paper, roses, and more apart from his assistant, as well as lasso things, then throw stars, knives, fire, axes and more at the sides of a girl – sometimes blindfolded. It was quite the high risk show. Out came two new clowns next – one who played wind instruments amazingly, while the other picked on him and provided a lot of jokes. Apparently, these are brothers. More dancers came out, then some ribbon acrobatics, which was just breathtaking – especially as she fell from the sky down the ribbon.

This was only half way through the show. A short intermission happened, where we were able to top up some drinks and grab some hot dogs, before the show was back on. Another motorbike act, which had a rider driving across a rope, while a girl hung from a bar, posing and holding her self up with her ankles. The clown came back out, doing another bit with a vacuum, before a butterfly-looking girl used a giant umbrella to dance and hang from the ceiling. There was some more clown gags, a very flexible lady doing some amazing poses with her body, and then the final, show-stopper act at Circus Fantasia.

A very silly fireman, on a ladder that was hung in the middle of the stage, lit himself and the rope on fire, then spent the next 15 minutes spraying the audience, spinning his latter, doing some amazing tricks, and really captivating everyone’s attention. Circus Fantasia really did an amazing job of providing a lovely, family friendly event that all of us enjoyed. The children were all very entertained and found the evening to be truly a wonderful experience.
