A Day at the Beach: Walton-on-the-Naze

Beach

When Jupiter first moved to England, she lived by the sea side. Each day, she could hear the waves from her window and almost taste the salt in the air. She loves the ocean, the soft sand and the feel of the beach. As it is summertime, and Walton-on-the-Naze is so close, we just had to have a day out to the beach.

The children were pretty excited about a beach day, so we packed a picnic lunch and set off in the morning to get to the beach! The drive there wasn’t too long, but when we arrived everyone was ready to eat some food before taking on the large jungle gym that we parked by.

At first, the jungle gym felt like it was stealing the show from the ocean nearby. You couldn’t quite see the sea, but the kids were having a grand time playing in the sand and going down a huge slide that they had. After a bit of time there, we did head off into the ocean.

The day was a bit overcast and slightly colder than it would have been in upstate New York, but with beach toys in hand, we set up beach. Robin went through a phase of literally just going ‘make a sandcastle’ then destroying it with a shovel, which was pretty fun to be honest. The kids took turns going into the ocean, through Amelia wasn’t the biggest fan of the sea.

Robin and Jupiter spent some time kicking the waves before Jupiter went off on her own to soak in the ocean. “The water was great once I was in and I got to take the time to bring home some shells as well.” she said. Beach days are always the best days, even if a bit chilly. Before heading back home, we grabbed some dinner. Walton-on-the-Naze felt like a very long day, but it was a very fun one, even if I do find sand still from time to time!
