We have gone to a few of the different Butlin’s location, but find that Butlins Skegness is our absolute favorite. Robin has been asking to go to Butlin’s for quite some time, so when we had a bit of a long weekend at the end of the May Half Term, we went along! Butlin’s is a holiday park, where you can get a day pass or stay in their various types of accommodation, eating at the resort and doing a bunch of the activities they have to offer. We are a big swimming household, so planned on spending a lot of our time in the swimming area, which was under construction last time we were there.

This time, we focused on a mix of shows and swimming, which was a lot of fun for everyone! As Kai and Amelia are teens now, they have different interests, and Butlin’s feels like a great place for the whole family, even if you have some teenagers with you. We always get the buffet package for food, which is something Robin and Kai really love, as there is changing food choices and a lot of different dishes to try. For me and Dann, the food is always just okay, but there is a good variety. We get both the breakfast buffet and the dinner buffet, tending to snack in the afternoons.

We also got the unlimited drinks package at Butlins, which was extremely confusing. This package included alcohol some of the time, included some of the places, but then there were a bunch of stuff that wasn’t included – but it wasn’t clear when it wasn’t included or where it was included. Many of the locations had signs that advertised the unlimited drinks package, with a list of drinks, but then 50 percent of those drinks wouldn’t be available at that place. This package worked at the Costa’s on sight too, but also only for a limited part of their menu. It was all just confusing and a lot of added faff, but Kai thought it was fun that he could order unlimited lemonades at any place we passed by, most of the time.

The Butlin’s Skegness splash park was a lot of fun while we were there; we went on the lazy river, the rapids, checked out the wave pool, and swam around the big pool! There isn’t a food court in this place anymore, which is a bit of a shame, but it’s still fun to hang out. We all did so much swimming I felt truly swim’ed out when we were done, with Kai and Amelia enjoying the bigger slides and all of us playing a lot of pretend and chatting in the lazy river.

We did pack some of our Butlin’s trip with a bunch of shows, which isn’t something we have previously done. My absolute favorite was Electric City, which we did see last time. This is a lazer light show that has a lot of fantastic dancing, different scenes, and is just a great way to start your time. I really think it’s so well done! The Masked Singer is another show we saw last time, but this time they had completely different costumes and people! The Masked Singer is Robin’s favorite, as there is a lot of fun to be had in the massive costumes and trying to guess who’s behind it. Jack and the Beanstalk, the play, was new this year, which turned out to be Kai’s absolute favorite show, as he loves a good dame. The end of the show was probably the most inappropriate to any play I have seen, but it was a great viewing either way. We also saw a massive puppet show, featuring animal puppets that had a bit of comedy, which was for a charity. Amelia couldn’t pick a favorite in the end!

Alongside shows, buffets and far too much swimming, we also checked out the arcade, spent time at the park, played in the greenspaces, and just enjoyed being a family on holiday. I had been traveling previously, so having some time to just be together as a family is just so lovely.
You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
