Picking Strawberries and Cherries at Cammas Hall

Every year we go to Cammas Hall for strawberries! This time of year, Robin is always into peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, we always are craving fruit, and the fruit itself is ripe for the picking. Cammas Hall is our local farm, which we attend throughout the year for pumpkin picking and other seasonal events, so we were excited to head out and see how the strawberries have done this year.

When we arrived, we saw they had strawberries, cherries, raspberries, and blackberries all ripe! We grow our own blackberries and pick wild raspberries, so focused on getting our strawberries and cherries, which felt like a fantastic thing to pick together and select. We started off in the strawberry patch after getting our little paper baskets.

This patch has raised garden beds, which are the perfect height for picking strawberries and seeing into the flower patch so that you can see the beautiful red berries. The strawberries were so ripe and bright red when we went, so we quickly found plenty to grab up. Dann and Amelia tried finding some funny shaped strawberries, including ones they felt looked like peanuts, which was a lot of fun. Robin and Kai also enjoyed selecting strawberries and were excited to eat them! Once we had two baskets that were full, we moved onto the cherry selection at Cammas Hall.

The cherry trees were sort of behind what was left of a Jurassic tunnel, which wasn’t in season at this time, and there were a lot of gated out areas too. It’s a little abandoned feeling, but once you get over to the cherry trees, there are plenty of fruit! These cherry tree branchers were loaded up, bending by the weight of the cherries. Many of the cherries were being eaten by bees, which is nice to see actually, as it feels like it’s giving back to the world and a more active farm. All of us picked up a bunch of cherries, trying to get doubles. Kai tried some as soon as we paid, and declared they were delicious, so Amelia and I had to eat loads too. These cherries weren’t for jam, so they are just fun to snack on.

Inside the farm shop at Cammas Hall, we did all pick out some of our favorites; they have fantastic focaccia bread, some lovely local apple juice, and everything you need to making the jam itself. It’s just a lovely day out, and Cammas Hall also often hosts live music and festivals, all year round, so we will likely be back before next year.

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
