A Day Out at the Line Friends / BT21 x Artbox Cafe & Boutique

The Artbox Cafe & Boutique has changed their theme again, for the first time since lockdown, so we all really just had to go back! This cafe, if you don’t know, changes the theme of the characters, the menu, and all of the merch inside the boutique every few months, providing a new experience. These themes all based around Japanese characters and shows, showcasing cute and colorful creatures that bring a fantastic feeling to the place. Previously, we’ve seen the Pusheen theme, the Gudetama theme, and the spooky Gudetama theme, however, BT21 and Line Friends were new characters for me! Let’s get into what was on the menu. As always, we went with Claire who also write up the cafe on her blog, and this time she brought along her partner David!

A Day Out to Paulos Circus

[Ad- gifted experience] Ever since seeing Circus Fantasia, Robin and I have been keeping our eyes peeled for more circuses to visit. There is just something about all of these different performances, ones that you can not take your eyes off of, in quick succession. It feels magical. Dann always describes it like boss fights in JRPGs – intense, with loud music, drawing in all of your attention and captivating you. Over quickly, when you just want to see more. When we were invited to Paulos Circus, we were all very excited to get along! This circus had acts we had never seen before, which is already pretty exciting! Though Circus Paulos is running at a smaller capacity, due to COVID, it is still packed with amazing performances and a lot of fun.

A Day Out at the Engine Yard at Belvoir Castle

[Ad- gifted experience] Belvoir Castle is a lovely estate that contains a beautiful gardens and castle itself, which you can explore. Just outside the walking path to the castle, however, you can find The Engine Yard – a collection of smaller, independent specialty shops and places to eat, which provide a really day out. Recently, they have opened their first Estate Farm Shop and a Brasserie at the Engine Yard, which has the aim to showcase local produce from Leicestershire estate, highlighting brands and businesses that are local, to support them further.

Afternoon Tea with Cats at Whiskers & Cream Cat Cafe

It’s no secret that everyone in this home really loves cats and kittens! Pancake, our own cat, is quite spoiled with toys, attention, and treats. We decided to go out one day to the Whiskers & Cream cat cafe to hang out with some new cats while eating treats of our own. When booking to visit the cat cafe, you can either pay an admissions fee (which comes with a free drink) or book for afternoon tea, where there are a bunch of different menus for food options from vegan to children’s menus!

We decided to go for lunch, picking the normal afternoon tea for us adults and the children’s afternoon tea for the children, but let’s talk about the cats. There are 9 cats in Whiskers & Cream – and you are told about each of them. All of these cats have different personalities and like different toys. After being introduced to everyone (and having our food served) it was up to us if we wanted to snack or go play. The kids were able to talk to the staff to find out different cat’s favourite toys, before trying to play with them! Many of the cats were playful, Jasper being the biggest, loudest, and most excited cat.

A Day Out at Harlow Museum and Walled Gardens

Dann has lived in Harlow all of his life but hasn’t actually visited the Harlow Museum and Walled Garden before – something which I found to be almost unbelievable! As the weather took a good turn, we wanted to take some time to check out the Walled Garden, which is the current bit of the museum that is open, with the indoor museum currently closed due to lockdown measures. When we arrived, we were actually given a little picture scavenger hunt, which was quite cute! The first picture was within the museum, but the rest were all outdoors.
