A Day Out at Discover Children’s Story Centre

Discover Children's Story Centre

Back before Lockdown, Dann and I had found the Discover Children’s Story Centre, and it was the perfect age range for all of the kids to go too. But, we were unable to attend, and with lockdown, and then everything opening back up, it has been a while! Kai now isn’t the ideal age range, but he is always willing to go out and about with his sisters (and as we had an evening event planned for him) we decided to go ahead to the Discover Children’s Story Centre anyway, as the two girls really would enjoy it.

Ideally, this place is best for Robin’s age range, but Amelia has been big into trying out new parks (indoor and outdoor) and otherwise pretending with Robin, who has an active imagination. The Discover Children’s Story Centre is essentially a large place where children can play pretend. There is two indoor areas and an outdoor area under the entrance fee, with another indoor area that has limited time slots, for a small price per kid on top of the entrance fee. We ended up exploring the default entrance stuff, without the extra ticket, and had a lovely few hours out and about!

Indoor Nature Room

The main room, right off of the opening of the place, is sort of nature themed, with large trees made indoors. There is a puppet area that Amelia and Robin gravitated towards, putting on a show. An area where you can decorate spoons and add them to a spoon tree – doing a bit of crafting, can be found towards that side as well. There is a book area with a few little tasks, if you want to do guided tasks, and a large tree that can be climbed up, on, and through. Inside the tree, where Amelia, Kai and Robin all pretended to be cats, meowing at each other and chasing each other around. On the floor there are a bunch of lights, that when you cover them up, sounds play inside the tree. Robin found this to be the best thing ever, and loved leaping over the buttons! There was a musical floor, which was also really fun for the kids to run across, over and over. There was also dress up in this area, with Robin becoming someone with a cape quite quickly.

Indoor Space Area

Up a set of stairs, either outside or inside the nature room, takes you to a space room – where you can explore different space ships! This area was really lovely in decoration as well. There was a giant spaceship to be in, with loads of buttons and levers to push, as well as some mini-space ships to stand in! A large, magnetic board with word magnets to create your own story was something Amelia loved doing with Dann – they both were creating stories for each other, adding one magnet at a time. Kai ended up running around, where as Robin was a good size to climb to higher portions of the place, getting into smaller areas and trying out the indoor slide. Amelia ended up also doing the craft in this area, which were giant light up tables, where you could place a drawing behind a piece of paper and then trace them due to the light.

Outdoor Play Area

The outdoor play area was the most suitable for all of the children, as there were tons of things to do. Some of it was space themed, with a giant lander in the middle of the area that had a fireman’s pole to climb down. There was a larger play area with a slide, which the kids did enjoy, as well as a bunch of tree houses. Now, Robin is convinced we should get some of these tree houses for our house, as they are just so much fun. The kids found an outdoor kitchen by one, and so started their own taco stand (we were going to tacos for dinner). They were folding leaves and selling them from the tree house to other kids in the area. This outdoor space also had a bunch of outdoor musical instruments, and neat wind chimes that you can pull to make more noise.

We found that, despite Kai and really Amelia being a bit too young for the Discover Children’s Story Centre, they did have a great time out and about there! There were some areas that Kai was too big for, and Amelia as well, but Robin was ecstatic. It was like taking her into a beautiful, big place where her imagination could really explore. I wish we were able to get along sooner, so that all of the children could have this experience. At the door, they did warn us that Kai and Amelia wouldn’t be able to do everything, but we still enjoyed it. It’s worth also noting that there are story readings every few hours, but everyone was too busy running around to really stop and listen to a story! When it comes to storing your items, the Discover Children’s Story Centre not only has ample places for buggies, but does have a bunch of free to use lockers to put your lunch, backpack, and other items away, so that your children can explore with you, in these magical rooms.

The Discover Children’s Story Centre looks like a ton of fun. My children would have loads of fun here. We are just waiting patiently for restrictions to be uplifted so we can enjoy fun activities like this again.

It’s good that you were still able to go even if the kids were a little big for certain areas. Sounds like a fun place for them to just let their imaginations run wild x
