Playing Squid Game in the Immersive Gamebox

Squid Game in the Immersive Gamebox

[Ad- gifted experience] Earlier in the year, I was invited to the Immersive Gamebox to check out Squid Game. Squid Game at the Immersive Gamebox is based on the Netflix TV show of the same name, with a few of the classic mini-games from the TV series made into a fully immersive video game. This game allows two to six players to spend an hour in the world of Squid Game, with a variety of different challenges to take on. I was able to play in two player mode when I attended.

The room itself does take a little bit of getting use to. You will need to put on a silly visor that has bubbles on them, to track where you are moving and how you play the game. The wall directly in front of you is the one where most of the mini-games will take place, and your movement in the room is how you will find yourself controlling these games. There are six of these mini-games and each one works very differently from the other.

We started off by playing Red Light, Green Light, a Squid Game Classic in the Immersive Gamebox, which had us moving from one side of the game to the other, whenever the lady wasn’t looking. If we so much as wiggled when the lady was looking at us, we were eliminated. This was a solo game, like many of the mini-games there were. The next game was Dalgona, where you needed to move your head to cut out a shame – and some shapes were much more challenging than others!

Another game that we played was Glass Bridge, which took some team work as you needed to see different shapes on various walls and remember them, to put in the code. This memory game became a lot of interacting with the other person in the room and hoping that we both knew what exactly we needed to keep an eye on. Basically the shapes needed to answer a question, so you might be asked how many birds were there, and then need to remember how many were on each wall and pick the side with that answer.

The actual Squid Game was the final game in the Immersive Gamebox, which had us taking turns running around the arena, trying to get our little character on the screen to complete the Squid Game. This movement was really odd and took a few practice rounds. At the end of the game there is a high score displayed and you can take a little gif of you and your friends celebrating. If you made it on the high score table, you will actually get to see your gif play within the building. The Immersive Gamebox is a lot different than a VR experience – it’s some sort of in between, but works great for teens and tweens that love playing video games!

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
