Twelfth Night at the Drayton Arms Theatre

[Ad- gifted experience] Twelfth Night at Drayton Arms Theatre was such a lovely rendition of a Shakespeare classic. This is a theatre we have never been before, which was above a pub. It’s one of those smaller, cozy theatres without assign seating, where you feel like you blend into the play itself. Dann and I sat in the front row, which is more important later.

Despite being a Shakespeare inspired play, which was in full Shakespearian speak, the theme itself was in the 80s, primarily at Duke’s Bar, where we got to watch a bunch of individuals all interact with each other, flaunt over princesses, hide secrets about who they are, and sometimes even duel. At the same time, it was very disco, with a lot of very funny moments that just was fun to watch.

Dann is far more into Shakespeare plays than I am, and had a real blast. I am not so cultured, so do sometimes struggle with the way that they speak, but all of the actors were extremely emotive and did a great job of captivating the entire audience. Sometimes, small things on the stage changed, but most of the time it had the background of the Bar, which was interesting as well! At several points, actors spoke to the audience – especially the front row where I was asked a question by the fool, Dann was handed an envelope and then it was taken away, and we were both invited up at the end to dance with everyone!

It was just such a good vibe. The show itself is on the longer side, with an intermission that felt very well placed to get a refill on drinks. The actors were all very talented and good at their roles – with tons of diverse personality, and I enjoyed my time watching Twelfth Night at Drayton Arms Theatre. Everyone was full of passion, energy, and delivered their lines perfectly. The fool ended up being my favorite character – she was SO funny! This made for a great date night out, something a little different, and it felt like a lot of fun.
