A Weekend Away at Waxham Sands

We love adventures, we love weekends away, and we love the beach! I am so surprised I have never been to Waxham Sands before – though we have had a holiday in Great Yarmouth nearby, we had not gone to this specific area. Dann’s mother owns an RV and rented a plot at Waxham Sands for the weekend and invited us to come up to have a little family adventure! We went up Saturday afternoon and then came back Sunday evening. There were a few places we visited nearby, but this post will primarily be about Waxham Sands.

The Waxham Sands holiday park is a very nice camping park. There are food trucks that seem to rotate in the evening, a little shop with toys, games, and post cards, and a playground! The playground has all your classics; swings, slides and even a rock wall. They even have a little library of sand toys in case you want to borrow some for your sand-adventures! There were loads of families, a camping tent area and a lot of space. The place is also very affordable, and if you want a later check out, it’s only a tenner to stay until 5pm! There are also showers, toilets and a large communal tent if you want to eat your food at a large table or play games at one. The camp itself is a very short walk to the Waxham Sands nearby.

In the RV area, we spent a lot of family time hanging out, as well as playing with various outdoor toys like bowls and tossed a tennis ball around that stuck to a circle thing, which we picked up in the shop at the venue. It was very nice to spend so much time with family, chatting, checking out the RV and playing little games. Dann’s sister and her partner were there too, along with his mom’s partner. It was like a really nice family gathering that was very calm and slow.

A small path over sand dunes leads to a pretty lovely, not so busy beach full of seals! The sand dunes are full of long grass, with paths through them that are really breathtaking. The view from the sand dunes to the beach are well worth taking a break to look beyond and see. It’s a great spot for pictures. The sand at Waxham Sands is very soft – probably the most soft we have ever experienced at a beach. It’s also really easy to make sand castles and make yourself into a mermaid too!

We spent the first evening at the beach at sunset, playing red-light-green-light, running around, and taking pictures. There is plenty of seals to spot too, which all three of our children found to be pretty magical. Their little heads popped up above the water, staring back at us at the beach, and they looked so neat! Everyone, but especially Robin, ended up getting a bit too wet and we ended up going back after the sun set.

The next day we went there early in the morning, as all of us are quite early risers and heard you can see even more seals in the morning. Both times we went to the sands, there was basically nobody else there! We saw so many seals in the morning and played a lot in the sand. There were more beach games, we got some drinks, and made loads of castles. We stayed until lunch, then went out to eat and went to some places nearby for more adventures.

Waxham Sands holiday park feels like a very nice place to stay. Everyone is very friendly and happy to help. I quite enjoyed the atmosphere of the place, as it seemed like everyone was living life at a slower pace than we were use too. The beach itself is so lovely, and we will surely be back soon!

Sounds like a great trip away, I wish I knew someone with an RV as it’s a great way to get away. That’s awesome that they have rotating food trucks so the food choices don’t get boring x
